Pay a visit to Shuttleworth in Old Warden and you will have a day out to...

Pay a visit to Shuttleworth in Old Warden and you will have a day out to remember. Shuttleworth houses a unique flying collection showcasing the first one hundred years of flight. Illustrating the history of flight from the early 1900s to the 1950s, you will see how the aeroplane operated in the pioneering years, was rapidly developed during World War I, was used for sport, pleasure and business in the 1920s and 30s and once again became a fighting machine in World War II. You can see fascinating examples ofaircraft ranging from the 1909 Bleriot XI to Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Sea Hurricane.

Then you can explore one of England's most delightful (and unknown) historic gardens, the Swiss Garden, created in the 19th century, when an interest in ornamental gardening and picturesque architecture first came together.

The Shuttleworth Visitor Centre is a great place to pick up some fantastic gifts, or just relax with a cup of tea and a spot of lunch in the restaurant overlooking the airfield.

A really nice little show with enthusiastic exhibitors and suppliers showing off their wares in a small hangar. Held in February the same year, it could be warmer outside the Shuttleworth Collection's 6 hangars than inside. At least the gift shop and cafe is warm😜

A wonderful place to go for a family day out and if youre like me bought up within the RAF then you'll know what I mean by the 'Naafi'! A wonderful and clean eating area to relax after looking at all the amazing planes.

A good collection of planes and other historic transportation. As a glider pilot and lover of aircraft history I loved it.

The Shuttleworth Collection lies just outside the quaint village of Old Warden, near Biggleswade and consists of a very large number of aeroplanes of all vintages plus other vehicles all housed in large hangers. What is pretty much unique about the Collection is that almost all the aeroplanes can fly and do so on "flying days" from the grass airstrip... More

My purpose for a visit was to take photos to get some practice and learning in with a new camera and lenses. Lighting levels are ok using higher ISO but lighting can be intrusive as fittings are fixed at fairly low level on walls around each hanger area. Some great picture opportunities but the way the planes and vehicles are... More

Spent a good while looking at the planes. Incredible some ever took off. Great historical day out. The spitfire that is being rebuilt will be awesome. Might go back when there is an event on.

Great place for all ages. Good cafe, convenient parking, helpful staff, great collection of working aeroplanes and vehicles from the Edwardian era to today. Interesting restoration aspects always entertain and inform. Adjacent Swiss Garden and Mansion House also worth a visit.

Joint top of my favourite destinations, Old Warden is a national treasure. I have a bias, since I can fly in (in my own vintage aeroplane, who feels at home) but even those with no particular obsession with old aircraft can derive huge enjoyment here. If you want detailed information, it's all there. If you want to show youngsters how... More

We had the most wonderful day out here at the end of August, and it was better than anything we could have hoped for. It was fascinating and expansive collection spanning the entire evolution of aviation. Highly informative with excellent and knowledgeable volunteers. All exhibits are meticulously restored and maintained with most kept in flying condition. A superb day out... More
