With great respect to the previous reviewer, Crookety ( note correct spelling ) was built around 1940 for the daughter of Dr Graham. The architect was Norman Odling, son-in-law of Dr Graham. Tripadvisor, please also note that the photo you feature is not of Crookety, but the Deolo Hill resort. You are welcome to use one of my photos in its place.

I have a special interest in Crookety as it was built for my aunt, designed by an uncle and my grandfather died there. So i've grown up with the name. Now it is the Indian centre for the Agni Yoga movement, founded by the great Russian mystic Helena Roerich who bought the house ro my aunt. Helena Roerich was the wife of the Russian painter Nicholas Roerich who painted many magnificent paintings of Mt Kanchenjunga and I happen to be also a great fan of both their work.
The house which could be set in a Sussex village has been impeccably restored by the Agni Yoga organisation. The atmosphere in the house is one of tremendous stillness. One goes almost immediately into a meditative state on entering. The magnificent garden that was created by the Sherriff's is also beautifully kept. One has to make an appointment to visit.

Crockety House is a Colonial styled bungalow built by the British wool traders in 18th centurry. This bungalow is unique because of it's exquisite architectural design and the beautiful surroundings. This old fashioned and charming house stands in Kalimpong as a reminiscent of British period
From this house Rabindra Nath Tagore broadcasted his beautiful work "Janmadin" on his birthday in All India Radio.

This is open on Sunday and most probably on Wednesday. We went on Monday and saw this property from outside as the main gate was locked.

I was a great lover of Books by Enid Blyton and the name Crookety House stirred my imagination like never before . But when I reached there, I was pleasantly surprised to find a bungalow built by the British in the 1940s and was the home to the Russian writer Helena Roerich for nearly seven years. The place is well maintained and is surely worth a visit!!
indeed a wonderful place
