This temple is closed to the Kanchi Kamakshi temple.
This temple depicts one of the Ten Avatarams of Lord Vishnu, namely Vamana Avataram.
Just with one foot, he covers the entire earth and with another one he covers the entire sky. And the third foot he keeps on the head of King Mahabali.
Temple deity looks different.

Om Namo Narayanaya ! This Lord Vishnu Temple is located very near to Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kanchipuram. Ulagalanda Perumal is in a standing posture with his left leg raised up to indicate that his one step has measured the sky. Two fingers in the left hand are pointing to state that two steps are over.

This religious temple will surely leave you spellbound with the deity that is 35 feet tall.
The Sculpture works on the deity has very minute detailing too.
Worth watching just for the 35 feet tall deity itself.

Mythological Story behind this moorthy Ulagalanda perumal - King Bali, son of Virochana and grandson of prahlada, was famous for his austerities. Though a Daitya, a ruler of demons, Bali earned much merit by his virtuous deeds and his devotion to Brahma. He became so powerful that he defeated Indra and humbled all the Devas. The Devas appealed to Lord Vishnu for protection and he promised the same. As Kink Bali never refused alms begged of him, before Bali with a request for a small gift. Bali asked the dwarfish Brahmin to express his desire. The dwarfish Brahmin begged of him that he wanted just three foot- spaces of land where he could live. This being a very small request, Bali consented to give him the required land. The Brahmin raised his right foot and covered the whole of the earth. Then with his left foot he covered the entire heaven. Then with his left foot he covered the entire heaven. Then he asked Bali where he could show place for the third pace. Bali showed his head. Vishnu recollected that Bali had been a man of great charity and had done immense good to the world. Especially as Bali was the grandson of prahlada, who was his great devotee, it was not fair to kill him. So Vishnu made him the King of the Netherworld (Patala Loka). In Keral people celebrates ONAM FESTIVAL for revisit of Bali raja (Mahabali) once in a year to see his people. Depiction of this incident is Ulagalanda perumal, one of the ten incarnations of Vishnu according to Hindu mythology. The shrine dedicated to this incident is very rare and is peculiar to Kancheepuram.
The right foot of the deity is in a lifted position, indicating that the Lord has already covered the earth and heaven. His left foot is pressed on the head of Bali Maharaja. A lamp, fixed to a big stick, is used to enable one to get a full view of the deity. Deity is in black color and a huge one. Must visit Ulagalanda perumal when you visit Kanchipuram. This temple is in walking distance from Kamakshi Amman Kovil in Kanchipuram.

We visited this temple on November 12, 2014. This is a temple built for Lord Vamana, the 5th incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the form of a dwarf. The temple is not very big like the other temples but the imposing idol of Lord Vamana carved from black stone inside the Sanctum sanctorum, with one foot stretched skywards to encompass the whole sky and the other foot the whole of the earth, with Bali , the demon king offering his head for the third foot to be placed on it fills you with awe and wonder. This temple is worth a visit for the simple reason that there is hardly any temple built for Lord Vamana and if you have missed it, you have missed an opportunity of a life time. This temple is situated in the heart of the city , not very far from the city bus stand and about a furlong from the Kamakshi Amman temple.Unfortunately,it doesn't seem to be getting the attention it deserves from the Tamilnadu Endowments Department. It is noteworthy to see Lord Adisesha, the thousand hooded Cobra God on which Lord Vishnu is seen in state of eternal supreme bliss being worshipped by devotees.

We visited the temple on 26.2.2015. This is also one of oldest temple in Kancchipuram. There is a big idol of aprox 2o ft height in black stone of lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu in Vaman Avtar asks only three steps of land from Bali Raja. First step puts on earth, second in sky and then asks Bali Raja for 3rd step. Bali Raja Puts his head down and lord Vishnu puts 3rd step on his Head. The idol of Lord Vishnu is showing raising step of Lord Vishnu.

Must Watch in Kanchipuram...No entry fees..
Being Hindu, we asked the temple priest why the god has got the name.. then he said, its the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu with the right foot on the head of king Maha Bali and the other foot on the sky..
The diety is such a big where you need to rotate your head to have a complete look of it..
This temple covers 5( different avatars of Vishnu) out 108 Divyadesams which are spread across India.

The name of the temple literally means One Who Measured the entire word . This temple is very close to Kamakshi Amman temple around 300 m on the Kamakshi Amman Sannidhi St and Ulagahandhar St intersection.
Temple Legend - In The history of the temple is that King Mahabali penanced herer to get full darshan of Lord Vishnu . Lord Vishnu is in the form of Trivikrama(5th Incarnation of Lord Vishnu). Even then he could not see the lords full form. Hence he requested Lord to give him the form of Aadiseshar Snake .
Here Lord Vishnu is close to 35 feet tall more than 20 feet wide with his left leg lifted onto the sky.The temple is believed to house 4 divya desam Thiru Neeragam, Thiru Kaaragam, Thiru Karavanam, Thiru Ooragam.. In the sanctum sanctorum, to the right of Perumal(to your left when you approach the lord) you can see Adiseshan .

It is a Vishnu temple. This is a rare temple for Lord Vamana in Kanchi. The main idol is 35 ft heigh and shows the lord in the natural position keeping his feet on the Earth and Sky. It is very quite with not much of crowds visiting. This is very close the Kamakshi Amma temple and can easily reach by walking. Must see.

This is a very small temple and the only reason you would visit is to see the main deity idol in the sanctum sanctorum. So donot miss this temple if you are a hindu. Non-hindus no allowed into the garbagraha area.
The idol is just beautiful, spellbinding. Its a huge Vishnu statue in black stone, with his right leg on the ground and the left leg raised at 90 degrees. So the center part of the panche which is spread out has been carved very beautifully. He has both his hands lifted at 90degrees a the sides. With his right hand showing 2 fingers and left hand 1 finger. Even the face of the idol is so beautifully carved especially the eye.
