Sri Sri Sonar Gouranga Mandir is situated at Chakratirtha Road. The temple has the shrines of Shri Rama, Lord Jagannatha, Balaram and Subhadra. Bag / Mobile is not allowed inside the temple. When we visited, the temple was closed, however we could see a small golden Gouranga idol through small opening of door. The temple premises need better maintenance.

You are not allowed in this temple with smart phone or camera. So there is no photograph with this review. Not sure why photography is prohibited in most temples of Puri. The idols are no national security issue, I do not suppose the camera flash light will do harm to the idols. I would be very interested to know if there's any good reason for why cameras are prohibited. Now let us go to the part of the idol. Gouranga = Gour+Anga (Bahubrihi Samas) = Gour (Pale skin complexion) + Anga (Limbs). Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (also known as Chaitanyadeb/ Srikrishna chaitanya/ Nimai Sanyasi) was born in 1486 and was also called Gouranga due to his pale skin colour. Sonar in Bengali is "Of Gold". However, don't expect to see gold idol of Chaitanyadeb. Instead you will see a gold idol (supposedly - because it is very small, precious gold result in small idols normally) of Sr Krishna playing flute. The guard at the gate told me that Gouranga assumed the Krishna roopa here. Hence the name. I don't know the history of the place. The building looks like it used to be a place of a moneyed householder in the yesteryears. Now with their money gone - it is probably in the hands of trustees. Who do not have the business acumen or wish to make it a place of business. So this place has no entry fee, neither it is well maintained. You need money to maintain it - that money is not coming from anywhere. Therefore, though it might be a place of Vaishnava religious significance, it is not that crowded, neither is it well maintained with pom and fare.

Sri Sri Sonar Gouranga Mandir has a golden gouranga idol with nice peaceful surroundings..but as mentioned earlier also there are certain strict conservative foolish laws and money sucking rules which u need to take care of while visiting this place..

Sonar Gauranga temple is an important pilgrim centre of Puri. It is situated towards the northern end of Puri town and at a distance of 3 kilometers from the Lord Jagannath temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Gauranga. Camera inside temple is strictly prohibited. There is nothing for tourist. Can be avoided.

During Dec'17, myself along with my parents got to visit Sri Sri Sonar Gouranga Mandir, which was situated at 3 kms distance from Puri Jagannath temple.

The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Gauranga, along with shrines of Lord Jagannatha, Balaram and Subhadra and also Sri Rama and other popular incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the temple. We have offered our prayers and had blissful time at the temple.

About three km from Puri hotel this temple is located on Chakratirtha road in Puri town. The idol of Gauranga ,that is ,Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is worshipped here.Long back this place used to be surcharged with religious fervour, sentiments of Krishna consciousness ,absolute surrender to God Krishna , to the presiding deity of Puri ,Lord Jagannath.A few Maths are there for the devotees.Morning and evening time is best time to visit the temple and realise the divine presence.Mostly visited by pilgrims ,it is a calm and quiet place.

Just 4.5 Km form this hotel. Take an auto (Auto stand is just in front of this hotel), spent just 10 minutes you will reach the destination of peace and love.

Sonar Gauranga temple is an pilgrim centre of Puri. It is dedicated to Lord Gauranga. It is situated towards the northern end of Puri town and at a distance of 3 kilometers from the Lord Jagnnath temple. It is located on the left side of Chakatirtha Road, leading from Subas Bose Chowk to Penthakota, the fisherman village.

In front of the temple is the Odessa's tourist sign and the name of the temple, but a little later you'll notice that the to a park area, where were some houses. Area itself did not have any introductory texts, so the knowledge of the place got quite limited. Next to this was Daria Hanuman temple, but as a non-hindu I was not allowed to get in.

It's one of the landmark temples of Puri but so badly maintained in a dilapidated state . Otherwise a very tranquil place to sit and contemplate .
