    True experience of Chilika
It take ₹4500 to book a boat with capacity of 6-8 people. The first thing you'll see is crab island, there are not many crabs there and you're not allowed to get out of boat. They will show you pearls and gemstones to buy, it is your wish spend time in bargaining. But let me tell you, you will get same pearls at a fraction of cost on last island/beach. The driver of boats are bound to show you dolphins, so it may take much time. Place is good to visit if you love nature, beach, pearls or alike. It takes 30-45 min to just go from one point to other, hence you may be bored. Take something for entertainment.

    One day in chilka
If you find to see the chilka lake's review then you see many of bad and good reviews First of all the perfect time to visit this place is winter At that time You get to see the migratory birds, Dolphins and a few Islands and the sunset is really breathtaking.. This isn't all about Chilika... Do visit the Kalijai Temple... If you love Sea food this is the place for you. There's this "Chilika Dhaba". But that also some good and bad reviews, that's why I try my food to OTDC PANTHANIVAS Restaurant. They serve really nice food and The Crab curry is definitely a must try.

    Chilika to chill
You will for sure go here if you are in Puri. Be aware from crooks, they will ask 5k-6k for single boat if you with private taxi. Make sure to go for Satpada boating association location, they offer almost half rate for same. Dolphin view is good, rest all like red crab island, etc all are over hyped

    Chilka lake visit
We visited Chilka lake on 9th Jan. To our surprise the ticket counter at Satpada did not share any rate card and was giving only one option of Rs. 5200. There was no rate board. The Gentleman at the counter was very rude. The rate card as available in OTDC website carries no value. Otherwise the visit was beautiful. It is worth visiting. Early morning is best time. Beautiful birds around the boat keeps time clicking very fast.

Scam of real Pearl and precious stones
While on boat ride, they stop in places where there are people who show Pearl from shell and stones from coral reeds. Literally break open shell and act as if you are lucky to see Pearl in it. Asking price starts from 2500rs. Please, please don’t fall in this trap. If you don’t have cash they give someone’s # for gpay. They are manually inserted artificial pearls (15-20rs) and sealed with fevicol so that they break open in our presence. DO NOT BUY THESE. Don’t know why government is not doing anything to stop this scam. We booked boat without stop in red crab, still the boatman’s first stop was the above stop ! Do they have a connection with this?…

Boat ride was good but be cautious about sellers along the ride.
We visited on 16.02.2024. The boat ride costing ₹4300/- for 3 hours was very good. The sight of floating birds on water was splendid. Instead of showing us red crabs in their habitat, they took us to a small island and showed us 4 crabs in a plastic basin filled with sand. Then they broke open many oysters and in few weeks saw pearls. Their main aim is to make money by selling these so called natural pearls... visitors be cautious. Also, they broke some thing else and said that they were gem stones. We could see only 2 dolphins as against the advertised several dolphins.

    Puri Konark
i went to Puri with wife as an occasion visit. directly to Bhubaneshwar, hire a call taxi and drive to Puri. On the way, visited few monument like Asokas eddicts, the Pagoda at Dhauli and also the craft village of Peepul for a purchase with good discount in wholesale rate. Checked directly in puri Pippul ocean view resorts. please keep in mind that the check in in time in Puri is always 9am and check out at 8am. After an evening darshan in Puri temple, we visited in Puri golden beach ,which walkable distance from hotel, on next day early morning visited Chandrabhaga beach for a sun rise, followed by the nearest monument of Konark Sun temple. next destination was the Chilka lake, took online booking in Dolphin Motor boat association for a 1 hr rid, and lunch thereafter. (Check more option for 1,2,3, or 6 hr ride for nature lovers and having plenty of time) nearby museum and beach are nice place to relax back to hotel. n next day again visited the Puri Jagannatha temple and back to Bhubaneshwar for return flight.

Chika Lake Boat ride to see Sea Gulls & Dolphins.. Not worth the efforts
From Puri to Chilka, you have to travel about 50 Kms. Once yu reach Satpada, you have to negotiate for a Boat, which takes you in the lake for sighting of Dolphins and Sea Birds watching. Yes, if you have never seen a Dolphin, it's worth, but other wise, please take care of the negotiations at the boat operators at Chilka. The trip is worth as a boat ride, but near around satpada there are no good restaurants. We were lucky to see couple of Dolphins though and it was pleasant, but the efforts and expenses may not be worth.

If you spare time you can however this is not much of a sight.
- 5 k for 2-3 hours of private boat
- 1 k for the taxi from puri
- you will see couple of dolphins if you are lucky
- then the red crab is not a separate island it’s just a stop over in the mid of the water and then some fishermen will come to show you red crab in a netted basket and will sell some authentic ( I love to believe that ) gems we bought couple of those ( not at all cheap )
- then they will take you to some sorta island place to eat we didn’t go there as we refrained from eating at that place

THERE ARE BIG SCAMMERS SELLINF FAKE STONES!! He sold us fake stones. Be aware of this scammer we met on lake. He demonstrated us by taking out oyster shells from ocean in a tub and opened each shell showing that theres nothing but random shells by luck have natural stones in it. They sell these stones with demonstrations for thousands of rupees to people. He sold us variety of stones on trust and spend 10-20k on it. We investigated a lot after that and even got the stones tested. All fake and scam! 2 rupees stones being used for scam purpose to scam tourist. Please be aware. ATTACHED 1 STONE EVIDENCE

While I could only pass by it, since we were stretched for time & couldn’t go boating, the lake is massive & throws up beautiful views.

We had two bookings with this driver, arranged through Cab Bazar, with the following itinerary:
Day 1 - Visit Maa Tara Tarini Temple at Purushotampur and, if possible, Chilka Lake on the way.
Day 2 - Explore Bhubaneshwar and Konark.

The driver called a day earlier to suggest that we cover Konark and Chilka Lake on the first day and the rest on the next day. I was hesitant to change the plans. He then agreed to the initial plan but suggested that Chilka Lake is best visited in the morning, followed by Tara Tarini temple.

He assured us that he would take us to a government-run boat booking service for Chilka Lake instead of private ones, citing better safety measures. Upon arrival, we were asked to pay 4800 for a three-hour tour for four people.

After chilka lake, Cleverly, he began to persuade us that Maa Tara Tarini temple would be closed by the time we reached there and proposed that we go to Konark instead. He promised to cover Maa Tara Tarini Temple and Bhubaneshwar the next day. We did not agree and asked him to take us to Maa Tara Tarini itself, and during our nap, he drove us to Konark. We missed this diverion due to lack of network connectivity and offline maps. Due to this, we only covered 200 KM as opposed to the booked 307 KM.When asked at Konark , he again convinced us that he would take us tomorrow.

Later in the night, he cancelled our booking for the next day. We then realized the deceit he had practiced throughout the day. We also understood that it was not possible to cover Bhubaneshwar and Maa Tara Tarini temple in a single day.

Total fraud was around extra 3100 commission for the boat journey and 1040 for the low kilometers and importantly we missed lot of places due to this.

Cab Bazar did not assist us in this matter and instead suggested we book another cab for the next day. Since we had already paid him and agreed to his plan for the next day, we felt helpless.

The driver was overly polite and had a large tattoo of Lord Jagannatha, claiming he was a devout follower who visited the temple daily and volunteered to help disabled people. This experience ruined our entire trip and disrupted our plans for the subsequent six days in Puri.

I’m writing this review to alert future travelers about this person and their conduct. I advise booking tickets in advance and sticking to the plan, as there are many such fraudsters around Chilka Lake.

His name is Gyana B***** (Not revealing full name as it is not appropriate).I have also alerted Cab Bazar on this. Hope they take relevant action on him.
