The architecture is fabulous. At the entrance of the Church, it will be difficult to comprehend the size of it. The moment reaching the first floor will be a shock to many of us. It is massive! Definitely worth visiting! Tip: Visit close to sunset.

It is a normal Church. I went with great expectation but its all went in vain. Nothing to hype about this place. It is a normal church.

My experience was with this place was not good. Our driver took us to this place on Sunday where everything was shut and no direction as what to do. We were left stranded as why we are here and what needs to be done.
We made a quick escape from this place after clicking few photographs to mark this place in our checklist.
Would not recommend as there is nothing much to do until you want to go inside to offer prayer or want to enjoy the architecture.

Cathedral Church of Catholic is a beautiful shrine located in the heart of Shillong city, Meghalaya. It is the principal place of worship in Shillong city. It is amongst the famous place to visit in Shillong city. The church is big and largest in Shillong, Meghalaya.

The first few things you notice about the church is the pretty powder blue color, Gothic style of architecture and how huge the place is. This church is located in the Laitumkhrah itself and was like a 5 minute drive from our hotel. This is a Roman Catholic Church and also known as the Cathedral Catholic Church. Dedicated to mother Mary, the Cathedral Church of Mary Help of Christians was built by the Germans in 1913. According to history, the construction of the present shrine was built after the first church got destroyed due to a fire accident in 1936.
The church is built on a sort of high plateau and one has to take a steep short flight of steps or a gradient to reach it. The beautiful church has two levels. Each level had a church. While the lower level is a small chapel that has a prayer hall and is filled with candles and prayer books, the upper level is a huge cathedral with big seating capacity. The upper level church seemed to be for the elite and higher class while the smaller chapel was housing the tribes of this area and less well off class. The church has high arches and stained glass windows which add to its grandeur.
Since it was a Sunday and a mass day, we saw people dressed in their Sunday best waiting in a queue to get into the church. We also saw a board by the entrance to the church which said tourists not allowed inside. Maybe because of it being a mass day, the restrictions on tourist was in force or maybe because of the pandemic the entrance was restricted to outsiders - I am not sure of the reason here. So we didn't try to go in but just walked around. There is a small garden outside where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere. We could hear the choir inside playing.

2. Parking Available : Yes (There is a designated parking space inside the church premise at the first floor). However since we were only spending a short time here, we parked our car on the road itself (pretty empty at that time of the day)

This Cathedral is small when compared to others. But the atmosphere inside is very peaceful. A nice place to pray.

Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians ✝️ is one of the finest 😍 structures in #shillong. The best part of this structure is that its earthquake 📉 proof. It is built on the layer of sand on the rocks which will help the structure to move during earthquake and prevent its destruction 🤟.

Humongous Church...one of the largest...photography is not allowed inside the Cathedral...

The Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, is one of the most beautiful churches of Shillong , built on a steep plateau that requires one to climb a set of steps to reach. It is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. The church with its towering arches and big stained-glass windows has two levels: a chapel and a huge cathedral. A distinguishing fact about the church is that it is constructed to resist earthquake.
Mary Help of Christians Cathedral is erected on the same site, where the first-ever church of Shillong was built. The shrine also houses the grave of First Archbishop of the city.
One can visit this church to look at the varied artwork depicting various chapters and scenes from the holy scriptures and the life stories of several saints. Perched atop a hill, this church delivers a feeling of serenity along with spirituality. The tall arches, stained glasses, and artwork portraying the scenes from the holy scriptures enhance the overall appearance of the cathedral, making it one of the most stunning tourist places in Shillong.
