At the height of about 1970 m above sea level, Shillong Peak is the highest point in Shillong. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city, the Himalayas, its waterfalls as well as Bangladesh plains. A telescope is available for tourists to get a bird's eye view.
Trekking up to this semi-circular Shillong Peak is highly recommended , where you can relish some magnificent views of the entire city of Shillong .
The peak is also believed to be the abode of the deity that protects the city. The experience of being here is truly refreshing which makes it bag a spot among the most exciting places to visit in Shillong.

A birds eye view of Shillong city can be seen from the Peak. Standing at an elevation of about 4900 feet, this spot is worth visiting in Shillong. Under the control of Indian Defense, we need to register ourselves at the entrance and deposit our ID before entering the site. A must visit spot while in Shillong

About 30 min drive from the city center. Under the control of army/ Entry for vehicles starts from 9.30 am. If reached late one has to wait for hours together to gain entry. All members in the group have to deposit identity cards with the security. Not recommended for people with tight schedules.

Shillong Peak is the place to go to to get a feel of the expanse and spread od the city, the one time capital of unified Assam before Meghalaya was carved out of it.
Since the road goes through a major radar station of IAF, one must keep time in hand (say, half an hour), however, to queue up to provide proof of identity of all members of the group and secure an on the spot IAF permit.

Out of the town on a hill top, located within the Air Force Camp area, this is a good spot for an outing, while in Shillong. There are good view points and viewing towers. The green ambience is inviting and clean for freshness.

Bad weather and mist ruined the anticipated view of Shillong city from this highest point so do a quick weather check before going. Photos in local dresses though provided atleast some reason to travel to Shillong peak.

Meghalaya is seriously "Abode of clouds".
A must visit place. People are good and helping. You get cabs from Guwahati Airport which you can hire for the entire trip.
I would suggest you to book hotels yourself and hire a car for sightseeing.
The works out in a cost effective way.
