- KavinaKolkata (Calcutta), India151 contributionsSereneIt was a wonderful experience and my second time here at the Lake. The only issue was that the boat rides are only for 5 minutes and highly overpriced. Also the system of assigning boats to people seemed needs to be upgraded, as it was being handled by just a few people in a haphazard manner. Waiting time to get a boat is usually 1-1.5 hours. So keep time in hand.Visited January 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 January 2022
- Discover with AnishaPune, India57 contributionsA pristine huge lake on the way to ShillongWhile traveling from Guwahati to Shillong, we came across Umiam Lake. This is a man-made lake also called as Barapani (big water) due to its huge size and it resembles with lakes of Scotland. I could spend eternity listening to the sound of water and watching those boats has always been my childhood dream. it is a pristine lake and you must make a stop here. if you have time, you can also plan on staying on the riverside resorts - orchid lake resort is among the best of them.Visited October 2019Written 8 March 2020

It is a very good and vast lake on the way from Shillong airport to Shillong city. Not that great but unique. The systems are a bit developing stage. Tourists are visiting. There is a good resort nearby. Still there are teething issues. There is a long walking track along the sides of lake with tree houses in between. You get good breeze on these tree houses.

A calm lake on the way to Shillong. Stop here, experience the calmness and reflect on your yourself. After a refreshing stop, one may continue onwards to the capital of abode of clouds.

A lovely stop on your way from Shillong ( Meghalaya) to Guwahati ( Assam). It's a peaceful lake and though there were many visitors it didn't effect thr experience. There were some preparations for a wedding reception and the queue for the water rides was long so we skipped it.

Umaim Lake was the first treat to the eyes, enroute to Shillong from Guwahati airport. We stopped here during the evening and walked up to the lake from the parking area.
It offered us an amazing sun set view and a relaxed evening. You can sit by the lake and either enjoy a boat ride or experience the serenity as it was quite peaceful with very less crowd.
Initially it seemed to be a small man made lake but when we started our journey back in the car, it continued along the road and was pretty extensive. I wanted to come back and enjoy the expanse of this lake, which we did while coming back to Guwahati airport. You can spend one full day here and enjoy with family.

Is it safe to keep our luggage in cab / taxi?

Meghalaya in general is pretty safe. But like Vaishak said it all depends on the driver. Follow the usual safety norms like leaving the luggage in the boot. Keep the valuable with yourself and you shoudl be fine.

Hi,
Unfortunately, the number doesn't work at all. I have been trying calling since past few days and it says invalid number. Even unable to send a SMS. Online booking is only available on Airbnb and it is adding several undesirable charges to the rent making it almost double. If any other mode of contact is available please share.
Thanks

I am not sure about your question. What you can do to visit the lake, you go there, pay entry fee, be there for an hour or two and came back to Shillong city.
Yes there is a hotel besides, you may book there.
I hope you can enjoy the lake.
