- Naushirwan CDubai, United Arab Emirates51 contributionsGood picnic spotThe Charlotte Lake is the reservoir for Matheran. It is nicely filled in the months post monsoon. Unfortunately, people visiting this place pollute the lake by throwing garbage. There are a few vendors around the lake selling tea, coffee, maggi noodles, corn, cold drinks, etc. This is a nice place to visit when in Matheran. A half hour leisure walk from the market place. It is picturesque, though there isn't much to do around.Visited December 2019Written 31 December 2019
- TrueIndian189 contributionsApproach Road in ShamblesOne of the top spots on the itinerary. Can be approached on foot, or horse back. About one third of the road is in very poor shape with stones and dust and the last few meters are very very bad with big stones and is downhill. Horses also stop short of the last few meters which has to be approached on foot. Walking time from the market is approximately 20-30 minutes and one needs to spend around 30-45 minutes at the lake. The lake is appreciated from the bridge and is a good photography point. One has to be careful about the monkeys here too. There are games stalls and places to eat. There are a lot of benches on the bridge to sit. There is a board which directs you to a waterfall which can be seen only during the monsoon season. Lord's point is a few minutes walk from here and there is a very nice view from the point. Carry your own binoculars. If not then one can enjoy the far away sites through telescopes available there by paying Rs 100 per person.Visited January 2023Written 26 January 2023

Nice quiet point to relax and unwind within walking distance of our hotel. Find a spot along the bank of the lake away from the food stalls and tourists!

Just a silent place where trekkers rest after having to walk for more than a mile. The peace of this lake might really startle you, but the point towards its back is truly picturesque.

This is a beautiful waterbody in Matheran and best enjoyed at dawn/dusk or foggy winter mornings. Being a famous attraction this can get very crowded during monsoon weekends but on other days its really great for a peaceful time just watching the beautiful lake surrounded by lush greenery.

U can reach matheran from Aman lodge by toy train / horse ride / walking recommended only for youngsters.. U can have fun walking on tracks and eat at many food stalls on the way.... U can get to see beautiful valley views..... After reaching matheran , one can opt for horse ride ( expensive almost 800 / person for 12 poinbe ts which are near each other) , man pulled carts (800/person) or walk to the points( healthy people and young scan surely opt this) .... One important thing.... If u go through the map.... U will come to know. That Charlotte lake is beside the lords point, famous temple , louisia point, echo point, etc.... All points are located nearby either on right side or left side of the valley... and we need to walk to see all these.... Finally.... Worth visiting.... Beware of monkeys.... All over matheran .....take care of your kids bags and food items....

Lot of cheating goes on in Matheran. When we had been there for the first time, we decided to see a lot of places. Basically there are plenty of view points which offer the views of the valley and surrounding mountains at different angles. the view points are all kinda similar and there are no striking differences. The best view point is called Louisa. Rest kinda sucks. So if you see Louisa you have seen it all. We hired two horses for the whole day and paid about 7k. Thats because we hired from the parking lot. Once you reach Matheran parking lot, don't negotiate with anyone. Get a ticket for the train that goes to the town. And hire a horse at the town market. That will be way cheaper. Still it depends on how many places you want to see. I suggest go to Louisa point and spend the entire day there. You will save a lot of money with that. The more you want to roam around, the more money you will have to shell out.

No, camping is not allowed on the open grounds. But there are Hotels nearby and you can avail of those to stay. However, you can sit late evening near the lake and enjoy the nature.

It's about 2kms from the market. No hotel nearby. Waterfall is away from locality.Sort of jungle area.
Not much space around for a hotel, I guess. :)
