I love this spot in Matheran. Beautiful lake with greenery. Besutiful sunset can be viewed from here. There is also a Shiva mandir. Small joints with Maggie and bhajiyas are buzzing with people. It's abt 3.8kms from the station. Can go on foot or take a horse. The walk back is steep.

Multiple beautiful foresty paths to the lake. Cecil point, Lords point and Pisarnath temple close by. 2 eateries are around to serve piping tea and snacks. Lake had a lot of water in May. Felt good.

I had gone out with friends to see Matheran for the first time. I can call it monkeyland with faithful dogs. When you visit Matheran, you'll know why Lord Ram selected vanar sena of Hanuman and Sugriv to attack Sri Lanka. By no means was he docile or naive, rather extremely intelligent to hire such soldiers that attack from the skies.
The monkeys steal your sprite, food and chips. The dogs stay by you when you are not feeling well. If you want to look at the valleys, then there are a lot of them. However, if you want a real view go to Charlotte Lake. It's blessed by the nearby Mahadev mandir.
There is no other place in Matheran that feels so tranquil and blessed like Mansarvovar like this one. Only thing is that they should do something for tourists that can help them get a better view.

When we arrived in Matheran in June first week, we were told to visit Charlotte lake as a must..we were informed that it has a dam on one end and a temple on the other..so we set out in the evening..alas, when we reached, we were in for a rude shock..as it had not yet started raining, the lake was completely dry..it reminded me of a gutter at best..though the view into the valley was amazing, the lake itself was a dissapointment. We were informed that this was due to the rains being late..so advice- if you are not visiting in the season when the rains are falling..then dont spend the time seeing the lake!

A beautiful lake in Matheran. The lake is surrouned by trees. Cool and pleasant. Good place to relax for some time after the trek. There is a small dam as well. Lot of eating options available there.
One of the places to be if you are in Matheran.

Good place to visit in morning when windy . The scenic view is awesome. However do take care of hat / cap / spectacles cause my spectacles flew with the wind and I was lucky to catch it :)

- Wonderful view of the lake and the surrounding hills
- Good place to sit and relax
- Do not go too far towards the edge of the water fall - it can be slippery (especially in the monsoon) - and take you all the way to Neral and much beyond!
- Beware of the monkeys ( I lost a bottle of cola to one of them!)

This is beautiful and small lake. You will get very good and fresh air over here. Lot of monkeys are there, you may need to take care yourself by them

A couple of points are at the same spot. But Lake dries up during summer. Very old Lord Shiva temple across the other side. Good greenery.Good spot for instant fotos.Take a couple snaps from local foto guy as a buffer in case you lose data from mobile. DO NOT CARRY PLASTIC BAGS IN HANDS IF YOU ARE WALKING, FOR FEAR OF MONKEYS.Carry a small stick.
THEY DO NOT ATTACK IF YOU ARE ON A HORSE OR IN AN AUTO/RICK.

How much money they take of Horse riding for Sightseeing
Written 24 May 2017
Lot of cheating goes on in Matheran. When we had been there for the first time, we decided to see a lot of places. Basically there are plenty of view points which offer the views of the valley and surrounding mountains at different angles. the view points are all kinda similar and there are no striking differences. The best view point is called Louisa. Rest kinda sucks. So if you see Louisa you have seen it all. We hired two horses for the whole day and paid about 7k. Thats because we hired from the parking lot. Once you reach Matheran parking lot, don't negotiate with anyone. Get a ticket for the train that goes to the town. And hire a horse at the town market. That will be way cheaper. Still it depends on how many places you want to see. I suggest go to Louisa point and spend the entire day there. You will save a lot of money with that. The more you want to roam around, the more money you will have to shell out.

Can I camp anywhere near this lake and do I need to take any permission?...is it accessible by road or how else to reach there?
Written 12 January 2017
No, camping is not allowed on the open grounds. But there are Hotels nearby and you can avail of those to stay. However, you can sit late evening near the lake and enjoy the nature.

Written 19 August 2015
