Hamta pass visit 27-12-2019
Dec 2019
Best place to experience snow in Manali .Less crowded place as the entry is limited . From Manali the travel time is about 1 hr through a number of hairpin bends and narrow road. Within few kms of travel snow was visible on the road sides . We started our trip around 9.30 from club Mahindra snow peak resort and the entry point ,where entry passes gets issued, was few meters away from resort .

As suggested by the travel team we opted for a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the trip. Roads are narrow and in bad condition and have many hairpin bends through out the journey . For in experienced drivers this journey will be a challenging one .

Hamta pass is a must visit place and better than Solang valley . Less crowded place and one can explore the snow covered valleys all around . The snow was bout 1-2 ft thick when we visited and was fresh . Better to get the snow suits from Manali as there are very limited shops and restaurants on the way. No restroom facilities we could locate at the Hamta pass area .Food items like Maggi , bread toast , coffe/tea is available in the small shops in the last point . Even you can hire walking sticks( branches of near by woods ) for climbing the snow covered hills .

Snow got accumulated in between rocks can be about 2-3 ft or more in depth and one needs to be very careful while walking through those areas .

The day was sunny and while returning we saw many vehicles , without 4x4 struggling to drive through melting snow and slippery ice on the roads . Better to visit this place in the morning half ,as there is chance of traffic jams due to parking on road side and narrow roads.
