The place where sage Vashishta took samadhi and became a rock which is still there. Vashishta's three riverine daughters flow first into a kund and then together as a stream from here. The stream appears to be a great picnic spot as well.

We had visited Basistha temple located in the outskirts of the main city during our sightseeing in Guwahati. This place has lots of monkeys playing around and hungrily looking for food. Main USP of this place is the beautiful fast flowing mountain stream flowing through large rocks behind the temple. We enjoyed sitting on the rocks dipping our feet in... More

This is an ancient temple and located @ 12 KM away from Guwahati. Rushi Basistha’s Ashram here in Assam. There is one Bhagwan Shiv Temple and a cave wherein Rushi Vashishta is said to have meditated. The location is calm and very peaceful. Water flow behind the temple is the main attraction. Many local people were there to pry and... More

Having been in Guwahati, off and on, for last about 25 years I have been hearing about this temple for some years. This time, when I was there in January, I decided to go there early in the morning. My colleague volunteered to join me for this visit and it was good to be there on the periphery of the... More

There is a cave in this ashram where Sage Vashisth, who was one of the Saptarishis, is said to meditated. There is a beautiful temple on the bank of the river within this Ashram. The temple was built in 18th Century and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The ashram offers a calm and peaceful environment to rejuvenate oneself.
