Really interesting visit to the Assam State Museum. It had a whole range of artefacts, some going back thousands of years, other a few hundred, some relating to World War II and other even more recent

The key was that these were all lovingly preserved and maintained as it showed assams history as well as indian history and how they two come together.

Congrats to all those responsible

The sculptures and artefacts in this museum is fascinating. Wish there was more information on the items and better display in the clothing and culture section. The museum has some amazing 10th century valuable statues, beautiful historical coins and brass and stone slabs with ancient scripts. A must visit for history lovers. The only thing i did not like was they charge extra for photography even when there is a ticket for entry.

If you would like to know about the civilizations and tribes of Assam state- you would find everything in a nutshell over here.
The weapons for attack, defense and hunting are a standout for me- Everything from claws, knives, swords, bow and arrows, spears can be seen in the museum.
The Agricultural tools, fishing methods, tribal clothing, dance forms give you a sense of the way of life.
Value for your time and money.

I love to visit museums when I'm travelling because they give a great insight into the history of each place along the way. This museum is sited in a grand building, well signed. The entrance fee is practically nothing, and the ticket price is the same for Indians as foreigners which is refreshing when compared to other cities like Kolkata and Delhi where foreigners really get hammered on entrance fees. There's several floors of exhibit rooms, but also some areas that are closed or under renovation. Each room has a title so you know what to expect of the displays. There were many stone sculptures which were very fascinating and located in a multi-level room with interesting design. One of the rooms had a mock-up of what it would be like walking through a tribal home. The display cabinets of all the many tribes in the Assam and North East region was particularly valuable at shedding light on how different each tribe's culture really is. There are lots of fabrics on display from all over Assam and the North Eastern states too. I thoroughly enjoyed this museum and look forward to seeing it again when its renovations have been completed and the other rooms opened up.
