Reached at 10am by Rapido. Best way to get around Guwahati. Traffic jams by the dozen but because I was on Rapido bike I didnt get caught in the jams. Assam Zoo was a huge surprise. Cheap ticket. Rs 33/- Well laid out. Animals looked well fed but bored. Also, they had animals I have never seen. Rhinos Hippos White wallabies Baby giraffe. Indian kids need to learn if they shout and scream and run, animals hide in their cages and we cant see them. Went around the zoo by golf cart. It cost Rs 50 but it saved time. When I finished seeing the animals I bought a teeshirt from the zoo gift shop. Very reasonable prices. Awesome experience. When I exited, it was 11.30 am and people/schoolkids were entering the zoo. Too noisy.

Nature Reserve with 400 Acres . Busy on a Saturday or Sunday. 3 km of walk up and down a mountaineous setting. The zoo is in the centre of the city. Enroute a location called Ganesh Guri. No cash for tickets, either book online or CARD payments to track entry. Hoolock gibbon was the star , he hooted too on arrival. The big five is a great attraction. Set in a green mountain backdrop. There is a Museum for the extinct and threatened species. There is a breeding program for Vultures nearing threatened sp. Rhino breeding program. My first so close sighting of the Tawny eagle under medical treatment. The leopards, black panther, cats are bears do have a special place. Each one has a house , roof, food etc. A few look hungry and few are well food. More visitors and tracking of payment to ensure survival in zoo .

Not very impressive. Long walk. It's spread over a vast area. The animals, particularly the bear and the leopard was thin and appeared malnutrition, it was hot and very noisy because of highway. I felt pitty on the animals. Few of them in very small cages. I think it's high time we do away with Zoo, and come up with virtual tours concepts. Leave the animals to the wild.

Well laid out zoo in a large area. However the direction marks are not very helpful. Nothing special except the hoolock gibbons and two rhinos.
