We took the government ferry from Havelock to Port Blair and regretted our decision. Unlike the Makruzz, the ferry bobs up and down and made me sea sick. It runs late.. Ours was an hour late and those who had connecting flights had a tough time. While the government ferry is more cost effective than the Makruzz, I wouldn't recommend it as a tourist - its more comfortable to take the Makruzz and have a smooth ride.

I had a good time travelling by governments ships. Spacious, pleasant and comfortable journey. Totally worth the ticket price. One important thing about it is, it sticks to its schedule and if you are a minute late, you might not be able to get on. Also note try boarding a ship in an empty stomach and once it has sailed try resting your head against something and sleep instead of sitting up if you are a first time traveller or have sea sickness. Rest assured you’ll have a good time if you go up the deck and decide on feeling that amazing breeze and a magnificent view.

Although I would rate this ferry as more comfortable, I personally was not in favor of the seating arrangements. We were seated deep down in the Vessel where no windows existed. There were a lot of cockroaches too, seats were small. More like stadium seats. Once we reached Neil, the Capt of the ship was asking everyone to de board quick. I hope he remembers that we are customers and not crew members. Compared to the competition, this was definitely a better ship. There was lesser movement, it was more comfortable.

much cheaper compared to private ferries and much better as you get to stand on the deck and enjoy the views. But, It is tricky to book govt Ferry in andamans. We need to submit a application 1 or 2 days before the date of journey and the tickets Hu are confirmed the day before the journey. It is always better to get help from a trusted agent to book the tickets. It saves time/hassle of waiting in queue instead of sight seeing.
Gopal applied for the ferry booking while we were still in Bangalore and he also went to the tourism office on the previous day to make sure the tickets were confirmed.
Gopal knows Andamans inside out. Unlike other agents who try to loot you, he is totally honest and goes the extra mile to make your trip comfortable. He submitted application for the govt ferry, booked tickets for jolly bouy island trip, helped me with 2 wheeler hire and all the other little things that really made our trip comfortable.
Gopal can help you with pretty much everything in port Blair. Please contact Gopal (9531918600/9933202151) for any guidance in andaman like permits, ferry booking, transportation, etc.

A good experience for someone who seldom travels in ship. Went on the deck and enjoyed the sea and early morning sun. We took an executive cabin which was air-conditioned and comfortable providing good privacy too.
However, the washrooms are unhygienic and not user friendly with water over flowing from basins.

So I was on a vacation with my partner and decided to travel between Port blair—> Havelock —> Neil —> Port blair with government Ferry and the experience was far better than the expectations.
We were under the impression that being a gov ferry the cruise will be not that great in infrastructure and in regards to hygiene but they have astonished my thoughts.
The cruise was air conditioned with good sitting facilities and better leg space. Moreover, the cruise had the facility to go on the deck and experience the cool breeze and the classic view of the ocean.
Note: It also is a big save on the pocket and better than travelling through a private ferry/cruise.
P.s. They have option of economic class and higher class for sitting, do check at the ticket counters.

I must tell one thing is that one should try to get govt. Ferry ticket for at least one trip in andman as it is the only ferry which allow you to go on deck. And it is also very cheap as compared to private one.

If i am making a booking through an agent for the govt ferry, and the tickets get sold out then is there any last moment options? Because i have heard a lot that govt ferries are subject to availability and are not easily available to tourist.

The only other options are pricy Makkruzz. It starts from 1500 and goes to 3000 I think. Best to book it via a trustworthy agent beforehand. If the agent is sure, you will get it. They have ways.
hii, how can i get govt ferry ticket?
port blair to neil than neil to havlock than havlock to port blair.
thanks
best regards

you can visit the govt jetty for booking 1-2 days ago . window opens at 5 am. Its better to inquire about booking procedures at office , on the same day you land port blair. I got it done through Mr. IShwar Rao 99332 26718 . he is reliable and resourceful

Govt ferry cancellation are done at d window. No online facility yet.. d closer to departure date, d higher % one looses. If u took thru an agent ask him to do it.. but he wd still retain his agent fees of may b approx 200 -300rs.
