About
Founded in 1973, Gahanna Woods State Nature Preserve is a successful effort to save one of the last remaining large stands of woods in central Ohio. The preserve is both a nature lover and bird watcher’s dream, with rare species of vegetation, including some of Ohio’s most exceptional wildflowers, and rarely-seen wildlife. Consisting of more than 50 acres, the preserve offers plenty of scenic hiking trails and areas for picnicking.

There are two parks here... Gahanna Woods & a state nature preserve. We live nearby, & go there to walk or run frequently. Because of the shade the trails here are really a great place to log a few miles on a hot day. The paths work their way back & around between the two parks & make it easy to take a relaxing walk/run. Don't be surprised if you see a deer or lots of other woodsy animals.

This charming little walk in the woods is on Taylor Station Rd. just north of Taylor. Pull into the parking lot immediately on your left because the road is blocked. There's a map of the trails, which are short. One trails starts here and two on the north side of the road. Trails are mulch, dirt, or grass, changing in mid path, and there are benches thoughtfully placed. There are wildflowers out in the sun - queen anne's lace, black eyed Susans, iron weed. Leashed dogs allowed.

I visited Gahanna Woods Nature Preserve for the first time today. On a Saturday morning I saw 1 person with the exception of my running partner. The preserve is a pleasant, quiet running location with very nice trails padded with wood chips, grass, boardwalks, or rubberized tiles depending on the section. Foliage is maintained almost as a tunnel along the trail, which somehow adds to the experience. I'll go back to this convenient location.

Only a mile from my home, Gahanna Woods is a great natural and uncrowded place. Gahanna Parks and Recreation adds new trails every year while maintaining existing ones. You can run or walk for miles with birds, deer and not many people.
A state nature preserve shares the parking lot and offers a boardwalk and rooted trail through a wetlands area. Both parks offer shady relief from summer sun. This is one of my happy places.

Do not let Gahanna take away our state park for continued sub housing apartments! Gahanna needs to provide sidewalks for all community members to take advantage of beautiful state park.
Gahanna says they have a 5 year plan for sidewalks to get to the park, but apparently this is not a priorty!!😢😢

Gahanna Woods was a nice find when I had some spare time in the area recently. When you turn off the road, the state nature area is to the east of the parking lot and the trails through the park are on the west. Don't drive past the parking lot as you will just have to turn around in a quarter mile or so at the locked gate to the city water tower. Lots of trails, woods, ponds, and plenty of seclusion. There were four other cars in the lot when we arrived, but two left. One guy was cleaning out his car and some woman was on her cell phone. She was still at it when we left after our walk. We didn't encounter anyone else during the entire time.

This protected State Nature preserve is one of the few remaining bogs. This is the perfect place to observe nature or simply relax and clear your troubles away! It is filled will flora and fauna that you are not likely to see at other parks in Ohio.

Lovely small park. Very quiet and well maintained. Great for spring wild flowers and birds. Some trails are stones or paved, others not. Great for a walk or run.
