About
The museum began with the acquisition of the Hull-Flater House at 422 West Sandusky Street, and first opened to the public in 1971. The house was built in 1881 by Jasper Hull, co-founder of the Findlay Artificial Gas and Light Company, and was one of the grandest homes of the day. Today, the home still serves as the welcoming “front porch” of an expansive development that has grown to nine facilities, including the Little Red Schoolhouse and the new Marathon Energy & Transportation Annex. In addition to an expansive campus, the museum houses more than 70,000 books, photographs, manuscripts and artifacts in its collections. Without the efforts of the Hancock Historical Museum, we would lose many of the stories, buildings, memories and treasures – and the lessons they hold – for future generations.

Really cool museum that's handicap accessible (elevator as well). Took a group of younger Actors there, and they loved it! Great selection/amount of local and national items to peruse. Well worth a stop!

We visited today to see the 13 Star Revolutionary Way Flag on display through 7/5/2019. Awesome experience and worth the drive to see this artifact up close and personal. Museum and grounds also offer several interesting outbuildings showcasing local history.

Great historical education. The staff very knowing. Pretty neat house in the middle of Findlay. Also, good for school field trips.

This is one of our favorite hometown tourist spots. The house is furnished with period pieces and local historical items. The attached museum is also worth the time to explore. There is a new transportation museum, log cabin and 2 other houses on the property. A library/archives research center is also included on the second floor of the museum. I wish they were open more days and hours, but understand the limitations of a non-profit and volunteer driven entity.

Right away, I'll admit I am a history buff. I like museums and historic homes. I have been to the Hancock County Historical Museum many times, and I think it is worth a visit for anyone with an interest in Northwest Ohio history, particularly in Findlay, Ohio, but it does have some problems. In the house, the rooms are set up with typical furnishings of the period. Nothing really unique except the corner cupboard in the partially furnished kitchen, which has cans and boxes from the era. The cabin enables kids to go upstairs and see what the loft would have looked like if it had been their bedroom.
There is a car which is unique for its rarity and the fact that it was built here. Two other houses were moved to the site, a farmhouse and a small house with unusual architecture has a couple of furnished rooms. The last time I was there, neither was open, and I hadn't heard anything about them being opened since then.
Sadly, the museum itself is dark and uninviting. The displays are random, and it is hard work to figure out their significance. There is a display case of Findlay glass, an old printing press, and a story about some Civil War heroes from the area. A few artifacts from bygone Findlay manufacturers are here. It is impossible to keep children or husbands focused, they ran through the entire complex in about 35 minutes.
The schoolhouse mentioned in other reviews is rarely open, and it is six miles from the downtown museum. Maybe you can find a special event to attend and see it all at once.

I have been here with my children when they were in school. And often with kids on my bus for trips. I enjoyed it, but I'm from the area. A lot of history lessons. The school kids seem to enjoy it! I like looking at all the displays of Findlay, when I grew up and before!

Nice museum, not overly large, but has a great collection of items showing the history of Hancock County. The museum is also involved in the community and has activities throughout the year.

This is a small town gem. Beautifully presented & guide was very knowledgeable. A must see. If you've located here, home of Marathon & Cooper Tire, this gives a great insight of Findlay Ohios past.

Visited the museum for the first time last Christmas season. Enjoyed a tour of their various homes, decorated for Christmas, with the guide sharing enlightening details related to each home.
The museum itself is jam packed with history of industry, people and events of Hancock County. I especially loved viewing the Findlay glass pieces, and you can purchase your own personal Example of Findlay history! An added treat was delis coups refreshments. This would be an enjoyable outing anytime, but especially enjoyable to share with friends and family at Christmastime..
