We have visited here before. The trails are nice running through wooded areas and through a meadow. The one trail in the wooded area can be tricky with rocks going over a stream and a slight uphill climb. This trail can also be closed if closed due to flooding. There are plenty of birds to be seen for those who enjoy bird watching and you don't have to go far. The Nature Center has an observation window to observe the birds at their feeders. Quite a few can be seen right from here and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. They also have some birds being rehabed in cages outside. They are typically birds of prey. Bathrooms are on the premises so plenty of time can be spent here. They also run programs for the public. Most include programs for children and families.

Deer Haven Preserve is one of several Delaware County Preservation Parks. (Visit every one if you are able.) It is one of the larger Preservation Parks with more parking than others. The trails are slightly improved. You need to be relatively able-bodied to hike. Bring your family and camera - and enjoy.
Deer Haven shares its entrance with Liberty Township's Havener Park. Trails extend into Havener as well.

Got your attention didn't I? That is actually one of the features the preserve brochure highlights. That's not why I went to Deer haven though- there is so much more to see. Thom P says basically the same thing about each Delaware County Preserve but each one is different. Deer Creek happens to be the largest in the system. and has a nature lodge and one and a half miles of trails which also connect to the Havener Park trails for a longer walk. Pets are welcome on the pet trail only. Wheelchairs and strollers are not advised on the trails because of the unimproved surface and terrain changes. The creek crossing trail has a series of stairs down the ravine on each side. Smaller children could go as far as the Havener Memorial on the Tree Swallow trail and then return without getting worn out and will enjoy the animal exhibits in the lodge.

We went with three kids the youngest is almost 3. The paved paths make for an easy time with little ones. But do be careful the water over the path can make it slippery and our little one took a tumble into the water. Lots of birds, frogs and flowers, we even spied some crayfish and land snails. Wouldn't go out of your way to go but it was a nice place to be out in nature. We found it after leaving the Olentangy Caverns which is close by.

View mother nature in a real nature way. Nature setting scenes as you would see them in the woods. A real treat for all ages.

Great hiking trails with a water fowl observation area. There is a cozy nature center with exhibits of local wildlife. There is also bird watching windows where you can stay dry and warm while observing all the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that come to visit.

I was told about Deer Haven a few years ago and now it is simply my most favorite hike here in central Ohio. The setting is wonderful, the trails are maintained and the length of trails are perfect!

Went here April 1 to look for birds. Chilly and grey, but lovely walk on dirt paths thru 3 distinct bird areas - wetlands, grasslands and through woods. Nice nature center. Also a short grassy trail connecting to Havener Park. Off Liberty between Rte 23 and Powell.
