Castalia Quarry is a unit of the Erie Metroparks and the only one that allows mountain biking on the trail system. A rugged stroller would probably be okay as well, but I definitely would not take a wheelchair due to roots, rocks, inclines, and uneven ground. We hiked the mile long Levee Loop on the north (parking lot) side of... More

I visited today with my fiancée who is from NW Ohio. I have been to a number of parks in the area but this is easily my favorite, alongside Oak Openings near Toledo. The huge quarry is hidden from the road and after a short walk we got a great view of it. We walked the whole rim of the... More

This place had some awesome views and a really nice overlook. Went this last winter, so all the leaves were gone already. I imagine this place is incredibly beautiful in the fall provided all the views you receive. The trail itself is marked very well and its a fairly easy trail. There are some points that there are steep inclines,... More

We've been hiking at the quarry for years now, and it can always be a different hike depending on which trails you choose. (Stay up top around the rim after a good rain.) Now and then we walk the bottom of the quarry and it's as if we're in another place altogether.

Approximately two miles of walking trails blazed through an old quarry. It's part of the Erie Metro Parks system, with trails that are nicely maintained yet keep to the rugged outdoor scene. There are several cherry trees, berry bushes and walnut trees among the diverse growth. The local people really enjoy it but it seldom seems the least bit crowded.

This is one of the prettiest hikes in the area. It is also pet friendly and a good work out. Beautiful all year round. Not recommended for people who have limited walking abilities, it is a 2 mile uphill/downhill around the quarry. It's one of our favorites!!

You can walk the entire rim of the quarry in about an hour. A good place to walk the dog or let the kids run!

This Quarry has 3 separate trails: one around the rim, which takes you up and down a few hills; two across the street from the Quarry which are easier walks.
