About
Let our volunteer team assist you with brochures, maps and information on Hahndorf, the surrounding region and further afield. Find out about stories and information not online, use our free public access computer or free Wi-Fi. We can also book local accommodation, tours, SeaLink product offerings and National Park entry and camping. We have a small amount of merchandise for sale, some of which is exclusively made for you. We are located in the middle of the main street in the historic Hahndorf Academy building which we share with the museum, gallery and shop. We look forward to assisting you on your next visit to Hahndorf.

We popped in and were warmly greeted by one of 2 staff. She gave us a copy of the town map which included the heritage walk. Off to one side is a lovely gallery/ gift shop which then leads to the excellent museum detailing the early settlement years of Hahndorf and how it came to be named after a sea captain called Hahn who brought settlers over from Hamburg on a ship called the Zebra.
One of the best and enjoyable small museums (and free) we've been to in a while.
If you like baking biscuits, see the attached photo.

Stayed in Hahndorf after trip to Kangaroo Island- as seemed a good base to explore from. Spent the last three days exploring the back roads of the Hills. Crafers, Cedars, Barossa etc and just walking about the streets after the tour buses have left and away from the pub set. Last day in Hahndorf and made it back before museum closed - what a fantastic space and time capsule of Hahndorf - and all the better for having walked about exploring the back streets and churches, buildings etc first - now I know why the streets are often dead ends and the houses are made the way they were. Loved the historical information and name for each room.
Congratulations on preserving this space and also making it available as an artist space for some interesting works

Wow thank you so much for such a detailed post and on the more 'unknown' aspects of Hahndorf. You chose wisely in making Hahndorf a base. It does make sense geographically and being so close to so much. I hope our volunteers in the Information centre assisted with your visit and will pass on the comments about the Hahndorf Academy museum areas, whom we share the building with.

Thank you for your review. Put a smile on my face with the photo bit - wondering what one of our wonderful volunteers that was. Glad we assisted and certainly hope you continued to enjoy your stay in Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills.

We stopped in here as we were walking through the town. There is free wifi here and an interesting display about early Hahndorf history.

Fantastic thanks for the post. It is good to have the local tips and insights, that's why Visitor Information Centres are so great. Our local resident volunteers always try their best to give our visitors a great experience, and to tell you the things Google may not. Hope to see you again in our town and region.

Staffed by volunteers who are very friendly, informative and knowledgeable about their area. The art was all local artists and worth a look and museum was interesting too. The lovely ladies in the museum/art part extremely knowledgeable about the art and very proud of their local artists.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and with your positive review. I will pass your kind words on to our hard working volunteers in the Visitor Information Centre and also will pass on to the staff in the Hahndorf Academy who are also mostly volunteers as well. The Hahndorf Academy and Information Centre are a must see stop in Hahndorf and a good first point of call when you arrive in town. Hope to see you again next time you visit our beautiful region.

I completed some research for the wineries that I wanted to visit in the area and was advised on their location opening hours and also during my travels a great spot for "taking in the View".
Unfortunately during my great tour around the area the weather was not on my side for a great view, but all the information gathered here was invaluable.
Much appreciated, thank you.

Yes Adelaide Hills winters like all southern Australia in winter can sometimes bring challenging conditions if you are travelling and we often do have different weather even to Adelaide city just 20 mins away. Each season in the Adelaide Hills brings its own experiences and so it is great to experience all four seasons. I am glad we were able to provide additional, valuable information to the research you have already done and thank you for your time in posting.
