Do the walk along Liverpool Rd to the Park. Its a lovely walk along the river and there are some lovely wharves and old character boats to view too.

Part of Goolwa’s charm is that as the town has developed the history has been integrated. And in this integration, Goolwa has looked at making the most of what they have. The Richard Ballard Park is one such example. What would have been originally just a bank of Lake Alexandrina is now a multipurpose recreation area that is for the locals and also for the many tourists to this area.

Set against the backdrop of the Hindmarsh Island Bridge, the park is attractive and functional. The day we were there, many groups, families, couples and individuals enjoy the available facilities. From the outdoor gym equipment, the playground, the seating along the bank, the undercover eating areas and the walking/bicycle track – all were being used. The dogs on leashes enjoyed the romp. Setting up a chair and throwing a line into the river was popular.

We enjoyed a slow ramble through the park taking the atmosphere and the beautiful scenery. A café just opposite was extremely busy. The many crafts on the Murray added to the overall beauty of the Park.

Return? Yes - all armed with coffee and eats and for me, just to relax and enjoy the calm and beauty.

Out on the bikes in Goolwa. Stopped in at the famous Goolwa Bakery and brought our food to this park. Watching the birdlife go by just metres from the River made for a very pleasant experience. Thinking of coming back here for a BBQ in the warmer months.

We have visited this park many times over the years. Our most recent visit was during a nice, sunny, early Spring day. We spent quite a bit of time sitting on the grass, simply watching the river flow by.
There was an abundance of birdlife on the water and some ducks came up on to the riverbank to be fed. There is a small boat marina adjacent to the park where there are some interesting boats moored.
The park contains a small playground, a small covered pavilion and there is a public toilet located at the northern end.
Richard Ballard Park is a pleasant spot to spend some time enjoying a bit of rest and relaxation.
