Wonderful experience, well cared for animals
The Botanic gardens were well maintained and beautiful but I went specifically for Bird World. The birds were very well cared for and the staff had great knowledge and respect for the birds. You could tell they enjoyed working with them. The experience of interacting with the birds was well worth the $40 adult entry fee. The scones and cheese box we ordered were excellent. Best scones I’ve had. Thank you so much for the wonderful day out. If I’m in the area again you’re the top of my list.
Hi ausgalah We're so happy you enjoyed your day. Thank you for visiting us and we look forward to seeing you when you return one day. Cheers MBG Team

    Great day out
A day trip to Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World will not disappoint. It's not only the way they present the birds, which is done with a lot of love and respect for the animals, it's the good deed they provide the community by taking these birds on. My friend had the unfortunate happen that he stood underneath one of the Macaus who 'dropped one' but this was taken with a humorous intent so all good. We were impressed with the space the aviaries offered, plenty of air to fly in. The gardens, although it was winter time, still made for some great walking. We were a little confused following the map as there were works happening biut this should be remedied in the near future. The coffee shop has a good range of food items available although there are limited place to have your meal/snack/coffee. All in all, a great destination for a day out for animal lovers, families and carers with their clients.

    Spectacular!
We loved our visit. The gardens are beautiful, with plenty of lovely picnic spots from which to choose. We absolutely loved the 'Farm Friends' and 'Bird World' experiences. We have visited petting zoos and bird aviaries before but these were terrific. The animals are so well looked after and there was a tranquility about them that we really enjoyed. It was a great experience for both adults and children. I highly recommend it - it's a great way to spend the day!

We visited with a group of friends and kids. The aviary tour was fantastic and fun for all ages. The kids also loved the mini zoo and feeding the animals. Beautiful location and definitely worth seeing when in Maleny.

    Gardens and Bird World
First up, great coffee! We beat the crowds and did the 930 bird world tour, then were entertained by the singing bird before hiring a buggy to tour the garden. The rock formation walks are easy and absolutely worth doing. I can see as the gardens grow and continue to be improved this will get to 5 star status.
Hi jodiegausden Thank you for visiting us, we’re glad you enjoyed your day. We have quite a few projects on the go at the moment plus we are in a winter garden at their moment. We’re excited for what’s to come! Cheers MBG Team

    A Great Family Outing
Maleny Botanical Gardens and Bird World was our choice for a morning to celebrate our 50th Anniversary with our adult children and grandchildren. The grandchildren's ages ranged from 4 - 16yrs so we needed an attraction that was interesting, spacious and had something for us all to enjoy. We were not disappointed. Reception Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. Aviary Staff were professional yet very inclusive of different levels of enthusiasm about having birds on our shoulders and heads. Great fun! The picnic facilities were easily accessible and we were able to have a shelter overlooking the lake that was perfect for our group of 18. Views were spectacular and the gardens a delight. Thank you.
Hi Delighted2023 Happy anniversary! We’re so happy you all celebrated a very special time with us and you had a great day. Thank you MBG Team

    Incredible experience
My partner and I went for our 1 year anniversary it was amazing. All staff were very warm, welcoming and had a real love for the birds. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because I feel that the best time of year to visit is in spring as sections of the gardens weren’t in bloom yet which is valid because they’re seasonal.
Hi isabellecostello Great to read you enjoyed your day. It's our winter garden at the moment with lots of blooms still ie: orchids, magnolias and more. Surprisingly we still have roses blooming too! Thank you for visiting us. Cheers MBG Team

    Such an amazing experience!!
This was such a great experience for my family and I. My son has autism and he’s been just absolutely fascinated in birds so to see him get so excited over all the different colour birds and all the different sounds they made was such a wholesome feeling. We loved every minute of it and can’t wait to go back again some time

    Great family day out
We had a great time at Maleny Botanic Gardens & Bird World. The encounters with the birds and animals were fantastic. The staff were amazing and informative. The garden grounds were lovely and well kept. We were lucky enough to score a buggy and did 2 laps around the gardens the kids loved it that much. We will definitely be back and 100% recommend to all 👌

Sept 2023 • Couples
My wife and I enjoyed a short two nights stay in Maleny in the heart of the Queensland Sunshine Coast Hinterland, (105 kilometres north of Brisbane) during September 2023. The occasion was the wedding of one of my nieces at Tiffany’s Wedding Centre, overlooking the Glasshouse Mountains.

On our full free day we decided it was time to include a visit to the highly acclaimed Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird Park and we were not disappointed. It was a most memorable and delightful visit. The place is a privately owned garden, consisting of nearly 23 acres (9.3 hectares) of gardens, set on a 110 acre (44.5 hectare) property about 5 kilometres south west of Maleny.

This place is amazing and visitors get a lot for the very reasonable admission price. We chose to take two of the combined tour tickets that incorporated the Gardens, Farm Friends & Aviary at the seniors concession price of $40 each. However there are multiple admission packages to suit every individual and family need. The attraction owes its existence to the vision of Frank Shipp, the property owner, who acquired land which previously housed cattle and built his dream gardens in 2005. He wanted to share the beautiful views and landscape with the public. He certainly has achieved that.

Our first port of call was the Bird World section of our entry package. We arrived at the entrance with its snappy promo signage of “Welcome to Parrot-Dise”. There are five aviaries displaying some of the most exotic birds on the planet. Before we could venture forth it was a condition of entry that we first watch an informative video explaining the safety features for visitors and the birds and the dos and don’ts to ensure all have a pleasant experience. I though this was a most responsible action on the part of the staff and full marks there. It was suggested we stay close to the guide to get the best experience from the birds and parents were instructed to supervise and keep a close eye on their children. You can’t ask fairer than that. All jewellery, glittery items and hats with buttons have to be removed prior to the tour as the birds love to borrow and play with these items. Also a feather duster can be provided to those visitors who want the birds to keep their distance from them. That was a thoughtful gesture. What is particularly pleasing is the sheer size of each aviary, such that all the birds can fly freely and their welfare is not compromised. The management has not missed a beat here – they have thought of everything to make the visit extra special for both the birds and human visitors alike.

Now let’s review the bird display. What can I say other than magnifical indeed! We were treated to a highly informative and educational fifty minute ‘walk through’, interactive guided tour. There are five tours running daily. The tour showcased a rich tapestry of hundreds of rescued birds, both large and small on display from all over the world including galahs, white cockatoos and multi coloured parrots and macaws providing a living kaleidoscope of glorious rich colours in combinations such as red, yellow and blue or green and yellow or blue and yellow to list just three. A real buzz was when these birds rested on our shoulders or our wrist or even on the top of our heads with not a care in the world and as tame as can be. All the adults and children on the tour were particularly excited and captivated throughout. And to think this rare opportunity to witness such a dynamic bird display had its genesis with Frank Shipp who started the aviary because of all the unwanted birds that turned up in the area.

From the Bird World to the “Farm Friends” enclosure - a section of the park showcasing a fine display of miniature animals. My wife and I really enjoyed this and we had good opportunities to get close up and personal by feeding and holding these “small fry” animals. The many children there were as excited here as they were at the Bird Park. There were Mediterranean miniature micro donkeys, miniature goats, baby-doll sheep, miniature pigs and lots of chickens and roosters. We were captivated by what was on offer. A lovely picture was painted of a group of happy children playing on the stationary Thomas the Tank Engine train in the animal enclosure with some of the animals deciding to join them. Kids will always make their own fun!!

Finally we set off on a walking tour of the beautiful landscaped gardens which were very extensive and colourful. The walking paths were so well maintained and there are plenty of them – 8 kilometres of them in fact. We witnessed a wide range of different plants of all shapes and sizes throughout our walk and we were aided by a fairly easy to read free site map provided to guide us along the way. Nice features of our walk included the Rose Garden, the many artificial lakes, a number of rotundas and on the way stopping at a picnic shelter to obtain the most stunning views of the Glasshouse Mountains. We chose not to take advantage of the hired motorised buggies available to make it easier to get around the Gardens. However walking allows you to see those little things often missed when driving around.

In all we were here for three hours. However in truth, if travellers have the time you need to make it a full day because there is so much to see. We missed other interesting features including for example the rainforest areas. Nevertheless our three hours here were priceless and we left the place with many happy memories.

We were just so impressed with this amazing tourist and educational attraction. The management and staff have put so much into the venture for visitors’ enjoyment. It is a 'must do' on any Sunshine Coast Hinterland visitor’s itinerary.

It is so awesome that we have such a top international standard tourist attraction as this, offering so much for visitors and right on our Brisbane doorstep. Congratulations to all concerned. My wife and I hope to call again soon.

Highly recommend if you want to see the true beauty of the Hinterlands! Everywhere you look there is something magical to spot. The Aviary Tour is a must see attraction, with the gorgeous and friendly birds being well respected by the guides, while giving us an interactive experience with some beautiful birds. I will be purchasing annual passes as even the cafe with the view was amazing and breakfast will now be had with a view!

We are first time visitors to Bird World, it's set in a very beautiful environment. The owners have done a remarkable job to where it is today. The workers there are very friendly and welcoming and always available to help. The bird aviaries are an inviting place and contain some very beautiful birds and some like to sit on your head. If you haven't been there before it's definitely worth going a most enjoyable day out. Oh, the coffee was good to.

Hi helow1323 Thank you for your visit and for sharing your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the beautiful scenery and gardens. Regarding the interaction with the birds, we prioritise the health and wellbeing of our feathered friends. Our guided aviary tour is designed to allow both birds and visitors ample time to interact safely. However, we understand your desire for more interaction, and we suggest trying our Private Guided Tour next time. This tour offers a more personalised experience with our feathered friends, with a maximum of 2 or 4 people prior to the scheduled tours of the day. We were excited to tour the Botanical Gardens. $22.00 per person plus $45.00 for 1 hour buggy hire (we were told it was hilly).
There are no gardens, we were shocked, it looks like they might have begun to develop gardens but stopped and it is now overgrown, covered in weeds with a few dirty ponds with water lillies. When we returned to reception I asked where the gardens were in case we had missed a turn, I said I expected to see garden beds with labelled plants and trees for our education but was told "anything can be called a botanical garden". This is not a Botanical Garden and they should be ashamed to be taking people's money.
We did not tour the bird aviary.

Hi bronwynj691 We're truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. The recent weather has indeed posed challenges to our maintenance efforts, impacting the appearance of our gardens; however, we are actively addressing these issues. Our gardens span 23 acres, including lakes, gazebos, waterfalls, and a petting zoo, and we're continuously working to enhance their beauty. We acknowledge the need for clearer signage and are in the process of implementing new labelling for our plants. If you have any further concerns or would like to discuss your visit, please feel free to contact us directly. Cheers MBG Team

You can immediately see how much resources, time, and care have been invested into this park! The views and beauty of this place are breathtaking; you can see the Glass House Mountains from any point in the park. So many flowers, shrubs, native wildlife - I'm just thrilled!
I've been going to this park for 2 years now, and every time I leave for home - with a bunch of lasting impressions and great photos!
I highly recommend this park - a beautiful gem of the Sunshine Coast.

We hire golf buggies which I would recommend. The food was delicious. We met the owner Frank and his dog Shadow. Lovely man and dog.
