This is a classical conical volcano - one of many in the hinterland but Mount Cooroy is the most interesting and dominant one. The shape is a perfect cone but its location dominates the landscape no matter which direction you come from - a beautiful sight from the air as you land at Sunshine Coast airport but also on approach from Bruce Highway or Noosa Eumundi Road.
The variety of the many volcanos is one of the appeals of leaving Noosa and visiting the hinterland for a day trip.

To some it's a "bump on the landscape", to others it is a landform of great beauty. Having just retrurned from the States where you are overwhelmed by the numbers of people, I am more in awe of our landscape than ever.
This is a wonderful volcanic plug which dominates the horizon from all directions around Noosa and the hinterland.
Wonderful to watch the colours and light at night.
As others say, you cannot enter, only view from outside.

There are so many land forms in the region to enjoy, full of volcanic plugs , but this is special. It dominates the landscape from every direction, whether on the freeway of travelling up the Noosa river - so majestic and spiritual. Not allowed to climb it on normal days but still wonderful to look at.

Disappointing, closed to the public. I rang the owners who said it is closed to the public. I wonder how it is possible that a significant mountain so close to a large population centre can be owned by someone.

I climbed the mountain on 13th August 2023, the only time all year Mt Cooroy is open to the public to hike as part of the Cooroy Mountain Spring Festival. The owners open it up for the festival & allow access just for the day - it was $20 entry which included festival entry & a donation to the Rotary Club & SES who provide volunteers and run the event. At the start of the walk, the team handed out Cooroy Mountain Spring Water bottles - Cooroy Mountain Spring Water owns the land and have a factory on site where they bottle the water $ which you pass on the way to the trailhead. At the start of the hike you could grab espresso coffee from the festival markets.
We arrived 6.30am for first access to the trail at 7am (group of 11, all members of a Facebook hiking group). It’s a busy event & this year it was capped at 700 registered hikers only which was a good idea as it avoided a stampede! We were some if the first up the mountain on the day when it was quiet. There was pink tape, SES and first aid officers along the track and there we all fell silent at the summit for a guy playing didgeridoo (a member of the public). The track is short but steep & rocky but I found it easy given my hiking experience. A few others found it tough though. There are 2 lookouts at the top - one out to the South & the other to the North (perfect views of Lake Cootharaba & Lake Cooroibah) - great for photos. Going down it was getting busier as more people made their way up. I enjoyed a bacon egg roll & a wander through the festival (still fairly low-key at 9/10am) with my fellow hikers down at the bottom. Thanks to the owners & organisers for letting us climb & experience this beautiful place.

Can never tire of Mount Cooroy, so awe inspiring, even the local horses love the environment, wonderful from any direction (i.e from Wasabi at night) and any time of day.

There is something special about volcanic land-forms and this area has several volcanic plugs. Mount Cooroy is the standout though; you can see it from almost direction - driving up the Bruce Highway, driving south from Pomona, dining at Wasabi looking up the river - doesn't matter where you are, the shape is such an amazing sight.
Even better at night when the sunset displays all the colours and cloud formations.

One of the best land-forms in the region, the shape is so distinctive and dominates the region from any direction. Had dinner at Wasabi in Noosa Sound and the view of Mount Cooroy from such a distance was amazing. Quite spectacular in the early evening colours.
