Almost as it was. A great tour highlighting the magnificent past, this processed huge wealth in gold that made Charters Towers the centre of the world for a time. Great to see this battery still standing where progress swept others away and hear the magnificent stories of riches made and lost.

A great tour through the battery. Well explained. 10:00am was the tour time and the light was great for photos.

Visited this site as a single on a weekday. I was warmly welcomed upon arrival by the tour guide, Malcolm who took myself and one other visitor on an extensive tour of the site which took approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete. Malcolm is incredibly knowledgeable and his passion for mining and the history of the battery operation... More

A very interesting and informative tour. The largest surviving gold battery relic in Australia. A good insight into the gold rush times within Charters Towers. It's hard to image the work that actually went into extracting the gold and the hard work put in to the workers that worked there. A highly recommended tour.

This is a unique tour, because there would be few places in Australia where a battery is as complete as this one is. It would be amazing to see the battery running, if they do manage to achieve that at some stage. Our guide was extremely knowledgable and explained the process in a way that non-mechanically minded people could understand.... More

This place is quite amazing, we loved exploring it and discovering just how much work and complex it is to extract gold from the ore is.

the tour guide was very knowledgable of the history and functions of the many parts of the battery. it has to be seen to understand the hard work the labourers had to do with pick and shovel.

I for one never realized so much of this went on, when you see the size of this battery and then visualize many more , some much larger it is truly amazing. The guide was very informative and a great insight in the operation of the battery was forthcoming. I would say this is definitely the highlight of a trip... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour into the old Battery. Our guide was very peasant and oh so knowledgable. You could completely understand how this would have worked many years ago. It would have been nice to see something working but can completely understand the logistics of this which makes it totally impractical. A very good time spent around there.
