Great family business. Friendly owner. Need to bring cash or use ATM in foyer. Art Deco styling brings back memories.

Such an amazing little hidden gem in Bowen! I would highly recommend this cinema to all couples, friends and family groups. Tickets are only $10 per person and you can find viewing times on their Facebook page "Bowen Cinemas". It's a brilliant experience for all! (Note: Remember to bring cash for tickets, food and drinks.)

WARNING - not advertised on their website but the cinema only takes cash. They do have an ATM but if you pay using phone and don’t carry cards (like a lot of people these days) you will miss out. We drove an hour from Airlie beach to take our 3 kids to the movies and had to turn around and go back. Very disappointed kids! It is a lovely little cinema so really sad to have missed out.

As usual, this theatre offers an"experience" at this 70 year plus theatre.
Front office Staff are friendly and engaging
Although we live some 50 minutes away, this is our local theatre and we never regret the drive to watch a movie in such a great environment.

It started with a silver five cent piece. We have a saying in our family, you can be a prince or a pauper, but to have the most important things in life, both can enjoy them and they cost very little at all. Go here with open eyes and open ears. There is magic to be found at The Summergarden Theatre, Bowen.
It can also be said, those who never look for magic will never find it. The magic we found here is our secret.
You will never find another human as gentle and kind as the one we had the pleasure of meeting yesterday. Thankyou so much Mr De Luca. We observed you greeting and farewelling each patron at your cinema as if they themselves were the king or queen. This can not very often be found in this day and age.
One cannot help but think Mr Baz Luhrmann has missed the opportunity to make another Australian master film. The story of this gentle man and his life in this lovely little beachside town could do a lot of good in restoring humility and hope in this sometimes very sad world.

We were lucky enough to have a tour from the owner. His knowledge and history in the business was wonderful to hear as well as the stories when he rubbed shoulders with the cast and crew from Australia. Such a fantastic part of history in Bowen for all to enjoy. Thanks Ben - hope to be back one day! Thoroughly enjoyed your tour and watching ‘The Dry’.

What a gem of a theatre is the 1940s art deco Summergarden Cinema. And what a gem of a film was 'Slim and I'. Immensely rich in characters and song- so much I didn't know about this Aussie legend and his amazing wife. A perfect cinema for this film with friendly staff who really looked after their patrons. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Yes it is old but the character of this cinema is great, the owner is such a lovely gentleman and makes this place what it is today, my grandkids look forward to seeing him as much as the movies as he is always poliet, friendly and interacts with the crowd what an asset to Bowen and also the prices are fantastic for the movies and very affordable for families

Took our 6yo here to watch a movie whilst on holidays, the older gentleman Was very friendly and the cinema itself was clean, comfortable and like stepping back to another era with beautiful props and posters around. Worth a look.
