Recognised as one of Australia's most unusual attractions, this world class natural history museum gives visitors a very exciting glimpse at what happened millions of years ago beneath our earth's crust. Rene Boissevain is a man with a passion. He has spent a lifetime travelling to every corner of the world to collect crystallised mineral specimens, gemstones, fossils and rocks. He searches only for the best - the most perfect, the most extraordinary, the most valuable, the rarest and the biggest. To house his growing collection of more than 600 individual pieces, Rene has built 250 m2 of tunnels and grottos for you to explore. Visitors are given a helmet and a catalogue to identify the specimens and explore the caves unguided. This virtual cave gives the feeling of finding these natural formations yourself. Carefully positioned and delicately lit, you are free to discover in your own time and encouraged to touch and photograph the crystals. Open your mind and put all expectations aside, this is not your average museum...

So we went in the not knowing what to expect and we came out pleasantly surprised. The caves are not real but instead are a life time of work by one man. Although not real they are still impressive with the knowledge that all the...More

Thank you for your review and you seemed to capture exactly what we are all about. You are right in saying that visitors who are very intrigued by crystals can spend hours and hours in the museum and this is why we have made it...More

My husband and I had a lovely look around the shop at all the different gems and a young man explained things to us, he was very helpful but we didn't take the tour.

Thank you for your visit and I assume the young man you refer to was Alex... What a shame you didn't explore the museum itself, that's where all our best stuff is.

A fabulous experience for both young and old. The collection housed in a man made cave tour is incredible and put together in such an interesting way. The collection displayed is amazing. The cave tour is hands on and there is a quiz just before...More

How did you go in the quiz?? did you know that the questions in the quiz have only been changed this year, before that they remained the same since 1987! Thank you for your kind review, so glad you enjoyed the collection and display.

It's a magnificent display of crystals and other gorgeous stones from all over the world that can be found in the cave-like structure behind the unassuming shopfront. Well worth visiting!

Such a clever play on words... hidden gem! Thank you for persisting past our demure entrance into René's world.

My mother and I went with little expectation and were pleasantly surprised. It was so informative and the crystals so amazing. We both left thinking it was well worth the effort of going and that it's probably a highlight of our stay. A member of...More

What is that old saying? have no expectations and you will not be disappointed. We recently conducted a survey and found that 87% of visitors found the museum 'above expectation'. This is heartwarming feedback. Thank you.

Yes, that happens a lot. NO such thing as a quick look when we have such a massive collection... Thank you for visiting and allowing 2 hours.

We have a 6 and 9 year old, they loved this exhibition, particularly the mining helmets. I would consider it on the pricey side when considering value for money. However a fun and interesting display. A good rainy day activity.More

I am glad that the kids enjoyed it... sometimes it is difficult to have a good look as a parent when you are visiting with younger children. There are over 600 specimens in the museum which have been collected since 1963 so some people spend...More

Thank you for your review. Since September 2014, we have done a major overhaul and I am willing to bet that we removed a lot of the 'cheesyness' in the reno. The colourscheme is much more natural looking and the red carpet has been replaced....More
