The guide on reception was very welcoming and friendly and was very knowledgeable about the history of the castle. Well worth a visit if you are an EH member. Quite expensive for a one off visit if you are not.

I'm a big fan of English Heritage; fabulous historic sites that are usually dog friendly. Brougham Castle is a great example, a wonderful castle (although sadly in ruins), well tended with knowledgeable and friendly staff, doggy water stations with free treats, and a good shop....More

It's in a very picturesque location right next to a river and the castle was very interesting. There's also loads of 150/200 year old graffiti. The Roman tombstones are also very intriguing. We spent a fun hour here learning about the history of the castle....More

We visited here with our two children and enjoyed a potter round this fascinating ruin. Some parts are really very well preserved and there are some really interesting things to see, such as the Roman tombstone in the ceiling of one of the upper walkways....More

I visited with my Mum on a lovely sunny but breezy day. Brougham Castle (pronounced broom) has a very small museum, small shop and toilet facilities. I think you can get a coffee from a machine too. The lady behind the counter was very friendly...More

As I'm a member of English Heritage I don't pay however I believe that the entry fees are quite reasonable and, if your a UK resident or likely to visit a number of Monuments/properties then a membership is very good value... More
