- Ian SRugby, United Kingdom862 contributionsMuch improved since last visit! Many changes here since we last visited with a new car park, reception area and busses to transport you closer to the manor ( at a price) although you can walk. Superb exhibits in the house and plenty of refreshment outlets as well as the usual NT shop and Rothschild’s wine shop! Friendly and helpful staff who are keen for you to see everything. Fabulous views and gardens. We are glad that our amazing staff made you visit a memorable one, and we hope to see you back at Waddesdon Manor soon!Written 20 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 October 2023
- Millie M48 contributionsSo beautiful that I had to buy the guidebookI rarely purchase NT guidebooks - there are websites with lots of photos. But I wanted to savor the memory of the spectacular paintings, porcelain, furnishings, and jewelry on display. The story behind the collection and the history of the family is fascinating. Even on a very wet September day, we had a marvelous visit. The gift shop offered a wide range of inventory, and they also have an extensive wine shop. I hope they are able to extend their opening days in the future. We are so happy that you enjoyed the Manor's diverse collections and visited our Manor Shop. - IL_Redheads_RockLake County, Illinois88 contributionsTo the Manor!Lovely grounds very grand manor. It does cost to enter, but when compared to the US, I'd say it's on par with the costs. They do have clean toilets, and food/drinks available. The house itself is interesting - there's a wall that swings out to separate raucous parties from sleeping quarters. We spent our time wandering and talking not necessarily taking every detail in. We were fascinated with the chandlers. There seems to be ample parking, however, we were there during the week. There is a bus to take you to the manor. Once outside and around the back of the manor you can see the beauty of the surrounding lands. Walking the paths around the grounds I'd caution anyone in a wheelchair or that has difficulties walking not to walk the wooden paths as they can be steep/slippery at times. They also have a small aviary. We are so glad that you had a great day out at Waddesdon and hope to see you back here again soon!Written 20 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Written 14 October 2023

- RozLondon, United Kingdom100 contributionsRelaxing and beautifulAtmospheric, attractive Christmas lights walk around the grounds. Gentle background music. A relaxing experience. Recommended. (Also had a delicious London Fog drink part way round the route - Earl Grey tea, vanilla syrup and milk, e.g. oatmilk). In the Stables area (in a room), there is an installation/display based on a children's book, with a few lantern sculptures of animals. Lovely, despite only being a small display. If you don't know the Stables..... it is a lovely place to sit and have a cup of tea. The path to the Stables is quite steep, though, but there is a rail. Beware: the advertised fish and chips had already sold out by 3.30pm. Not sure what I think about the photo-method prints by school children on the way to the Stables. Maybe would have liked a few more or else seen more description of how they were created, as the method sounded interesting. The light/picture projections on the main house are also atmospheric. Quite difficult to photograph, I found. Liked seeing the Christmas stalls, though did not buy anything. Saw cheeses, relishes, brushes (!), wooden products (platters etc), jewellery, fudge, Christmas ornaments, hats, etc. I deliberately arrived at 3pm, so I could walk up to the house, around the outside of the house, then walk down to the Stables when it was still light. Then, when it got dark, I could enjoy the Christmas lights in the grounds. (I heard other people wishing they'd arrived and left a bit later.) Of course, if you visit the house, it's fine arriving earlier, but do try to see the lovely lights after dusk.We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the Christmas light Trail and the display down at the Stables. We hope to welcome you back to Waddesdon very soon.Written 28 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 23 November 2023
- Sophiag1London, United Kingdom639 contributionsChristmas fair and lightsHad a lovely time at Waddesdon Manor. You can get a shuttle bus or walk to the manor but be aware that if you struggle to walk there’s a hill that you have to go up to get to the manor. We went quite early and was able to go into the house when there wasn’t many people there. The decor was fabulous. They had the theme of three books, Peter Pan, The Snow Queen and Alice in wonderland going through the rooms. Staff were friendly and were happy to answer questions if they could. The Christmas fair was nice, with an array of different stalls. Once dusk came the light show started on the house and lasted each time about 10mins. The walk of lights were good too. Everything was lovely and the music which they put with everything went really well. There’s cafes to eat and at the stables there’s a fish and chip shop. They have a gift shop too and a wine shop. Overall a good day.We are so glad that you enjoyed the decorations in the Manor and that are staff were friendly and happy to help any questions you may have had. - Sanka1 🇱🇰🇬🇧Bicester, United Kingdom5,913 contributionsDog friendly Christmas marketWe visited Waddesdon Manor for the Christmas market and it was amazing. This is one of our annual visits with our dog and we really enjoyed the bigger market this year and better weather as it gets muddy when it rains. The walk from the car park takes around 20mins but you can take the bus which has long queues and doesn't allow dogs. You could park at premium parking close to the manor but it's always full. Highly recommended visit for the light shows and the Christmas market with local products. We are so glad that you enjoyed your time at Christmas at Waddesdon. We are now allowing dogs on the shuttle buses from the car park to the Manor. However, at busy times, when visitors may be standing in the bus aisle, we may ask you and your dog to wait for the next available bus. The Christmas market, the house and the light show were all very good. The parking and shuttle bus service worked well and the staff were very welcoming. We arrived at 11:30am and left at 5:30pm and although it was very cold, we had everything we needed. The food area was busy, but had every type of food. We visited on Dec 11th and were concerned about the number of people there. It was very busy especially when queuing for food and drink at the market stalls and there was little social distancing going on. We found the same to be true when dusk came and the lights trail was very busy and where it narrowed it was impossible to keep 1m apart. We walked up and took the bus back. This was managed much better due to the zig zag queue system and the numbers on the bus were managed well, so it felt safe. The lights were disappointing compared to previous years and the prices were higher this year even though we couldn’t visit the House. There were not enough hot food outlets in the market and the queues were not managed well, with no staff present to encourage social distancing. The smaller food outlets were not advertised on arrival so most people including us headed straight to the market stalls for food. Overall, a reasonable experience as we paid the members rate but big concerns regarding the lack of social distancing. The staggered time slots only worked to a degree l, as more and more people arrived and stayed on to see the lights.

Thank you for your review, we’re sorry to read your comments regarding your visit to Christmas at Waddesdon. We have planned in detail over many months for the Christmas season in accordance with the Covid-related guidance. The number of pre-booked visitors (which are significantly reduced in comparison to numbers at last year's Christmas weekends) are capped and admission is spread across the different time entry slots to ensure that there is a constant flow of arriving and departing visitors. Buckinghamshire Council have been involved in our planning at every stage, and have also visited and inspected the arrangements.
In all of the main visitor areas, we do advise visitors to wear masks, and we have ensured that signage is clear and consistently applied. We strictly enforce this requirement for all the internal spaces that we manage (the buses, the Coach House Gallery at The Stables, the Treaterie, the Manor Shops) but unfortunately, this is not possible to enforce for all outdoor visitors within a large open space. We have many more staff in outdoor positions than in previous years.
We’ve tried to be as clear as possible on our website and in order confirmation emails about what to expect from Christmas at Waddesdon this year, including information on catering both at the Christmas Fair and from our own food-to-go outlets.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, we are constantly reviewing all the arrangements and we are continuing to make some adjustments based on observation and feedback. We hope to welcome you back again soon.

We attended with our 2.5 year old and 10 week old baby. We knew the car park would be a walk away but what is not emphasised when you book is that it is up steep hills and along wood chipped paths. Not suitable for a heavy double push chair. We asked if we could book the bus but we’re adamantly told no as it was fully booked. The walk back to the car was along the road with buses and cars driving past and no shade. Really unsuitable and INCREDIBLY galling to see so many empty buses driving past us as we trudged back to the car in the blazing sunshine with a screaming baby. The alternative is to pay £15 for parking a reasonable distance away, which seems mad.
The house is obviously beautiful and the gardens are nice with lots of mature trees. Pretty much everything was shut though. Most of the food facilities and the house. There is a reduced menu at the stables cafe; just baguettes and sandwiches. Which is fine but when we arrived at 12, we were told there were no baguettes today. So pretty much no choice. The play park was way too busy for me to be comfortable allowing our toddler to play. It isn’t being monitored by staff as far as I could see and it was a bit of a free for all
To blame Covid for this is not acceptable. In the last two weeks we have been visiting other local attractions including Water Perry Gardens and Cotswold Wildlife Park. All of whom have been open pretty much as normal, serving food etc. They have also been monitoring pressure points to ensure social distancing. We’ve also been to three local pubs/restaurants, all functioning as normal and serving food as normal.
Maybe avoid until it’s all open again as the ticket price hasn’t been reduced to reflect the reduced offering. It isn’t cheap.
Definitely note the ridiculous walk for a pushchair to and from the car park. Also note that there are lots of steps in the gardens around the house (and in the shop) with no ramps.

We are sorry to hear your visit did not match expectations, we have done our best to be as clear as we can on our website about what is and is not open, the new map of the walking route and including a short video about what to expect during your visit. https://waddesdon.org.uk/planning-your-visit/
We reinstated our shuttle buses last week following visitor requests for us to do so, but we have had to cap numbers and insist on pre-booking in order to avoid overcrowding and this has limited the number of tickets we can offer. I understand your frustration about seeing buses with free seats passing you, we will continue to reassess if there is another way we can offer this service safely.
As a registered charity we thank all visitors for their support during this difficult time, especially since our usual sources of income like house visit tickets, meals in the restaurants, special events like Summer Fest, weddings etc are not feasible due pandemic restrictions.

If you're not fit or have children in a pushchair, delay visiting until the shuttle bus returns. We know Waddesdon well and love it, but underestimated the 45 minute uphill climb to the top. There are plenty of seats but the bark chippings combined with the slope mean you're shattered by the time you get up to the house - and refreshments are then in the stables!
As regards COVID safety, the car park toilets were cramped and the cafe queue wound round indoors. Otherwise OK.
On the plus side, it was lovely to see children having fun on the lawns and we discovered Lady Alice's Walk - a lovely quiet woodland walk down to the stables.

Hello, many thanks for your review. We’re sorry to hear that you found the walk up to Waddesdon a challenge. We’re delighted that following the government’s latest guidance, we are able to offer our shuttle buses from 22 July. There will be capacity limits to ensure proper social distancing, so tickets will need to be pre-booked in advance along with grounds admission.
The safety of our staff and visitors is our main priority. Wherever possible we have put in place special measures across the site, including signage, hand sanitiser stations and queuing arrangements.
We’re pleased to hear that you know and love Waddesdon and that you discovered the peaceful Miss Alice’s Walk on your visit this time. Now that buses are resuming, we do hope you’ll visit Waddesdon again.

My disabled wife and I have been National Trust members for over 30 years and gone to Waddesdon Manor countless times. Today was a disaster. Arriving at our booked time of 10 am, we waited for 15 minutes for the shuttle bus, only to be told a group of children were boarding first and "you guys don't mind do you?". When we attempted to get on the bus (because my wife was already struggling with standing and waiting), they had to move two children from the disabled seat so we could sit down. When we got to the restaurant, we were told we had to walk through a tunnel and up a flight of stairs. Explaining my wife couldn't, we were then told we could go through the shop but that the restaurant was closed until 12. The NT website had said nothing about this. We ended up driving home disappointed...and hungry. The staff at Reception gave priority to school children over a disabled woman struggling to walk with a stick and my support. They also should at least keep their website updated as everything has to be booked in advance and we only discovered the restaurant was closed having walked a distance.

Hello, we’re very sorry to hear that you were disappointed on your recent visit to Waddesdon. Our shuttle buses run regularly throughout the day on a loop between the Visitor Car Park, North Fountain and Stables. We have been managing visitor flow by requiring everyone to book into an arrival time slot. We’re sorry that you encountered some difficulties when boarding the bus and have passed along your feedback to our Transport team. We have updated our pages on the National Trust website to reflect the change to afternoon teas only in the Manor Restaurant. Thank you for drawing attention to this and for your continued support of Waddesdon and the National Trust.

Today (21-11-2021) we visited the Christmas Market which we have done many times over the years being NationalTrust members. As a family we were all very very disappointed with it all, it all seemed very empty even though they were fully booked today, the stalls weren’t very Christmassy at all like other years have been either, you were ok if you wanted a dog treat or radiator brush. After quickly walking round the market We decided that we would go down to the stables for some lunch like we have done many times before to discover that there was no cafe anymore and it had been replaced with a pop up fish and chip bar that started off at £12.50 a head, I don’t know how they can justify £12.50 a head for your basic fish and chips.
There was nothing at the stables that said it was Christmas, other years there has been a giant bauble lit up and it was all decorated, there use to be a shop that sold Christmas decorations which was replaced with a lovely light display. This year the light display in that room was a complete joke, we stepped in there and just as quick came out, which was the case for many people that went in there too. We had to pay for tickets this year and the bus which when we booked we didn’t mind as we have always loved to visit at Christmas even though this year the house wasn’t open. Well never again will we visit here at Christmas we would rather pay full price for another Christmas market than visit Waddesdon it was a great disappointment all round, and listening to other people’s conversations walking around they were saying the same thing. I don’t know who at Waddesdon put this altogether but they need to take a look at other years and go back to them because if it doesn’t change next year Christmas at Waddesdon will be a thing of the past.
Covid I get has changed a lot of things but come on it just seemed like you couldn’t be bothered with anything at all this year.

Hi Stacey, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review- we’re sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the Christmas fair. We aim to provide an exciting variety of high-quality, unique gifts, decorations, crafts and festive foods, with chalets that change from week to week. A full list of the traders that will be at Waddesdon over the five weeks is listed on our Christmas Fair event each year. Further apologies that you were disappointed with the catering options and exhibition at the Stables, due to staffing issues we have been unable to open the Stables Café this year. This year the exhibition in the Coach House showcases the work of Leo Villareal, an American light artist. It celebrates the completion of ‘Illuminated River,’ a lighting installation along the Thames. We do still hope to welcome you back for another visit.

Certainly not shy in charging. Shuttle bus that used to be free now costs £2-00. £2-80 for probably the worst cup of coffee that I have ever had, a cup of beige that I could not in a blind tasting have told you what I was drinking, come to think of it couldn't tell in a normal tasting. Booking on line a performance and had to print out some ten separate sheets of paper, no i phone to download. The house and grounds are worth the visit but it would seem that the N.T. are trying to recoup lost revenue from last year despite having paid for membership and not being able to use it. Would suggest if going as a family you take your own food and drink. Picnic boxes available to buy at the manor, £29-95 for two people!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review of your visit last summer - we're sorry to read that you were disappointed with some aspects of your visit to Waddesdon. We introduced a small shuttle bus charge in summer 2020, this helps towards the costs of running the buses. We aim to offer delicious, homemade refreshments and we're sorry that you didn't find this to be the case, we will pass along your feedback to our team. As a charity, all profits help to preserve Waddesdon for future generations. We're are glad to hear that you enjoyed exploring the house and grounds and we do hope to welcome you back again.

Sept 2021 • Friends
We were looking for a national trust property as I’d have a day off work & Waddesdon was within a suitable length drive from our home.
On arrival there is a large car park where you have to register in, we didn’t realise that you had to book in advance but a nice lady did it on line for us as we were both members. You also have to book a time slot for going around the house. You then have two options to get to the house walk or bus which you have to pay £2 return for which we did, the bus drops you off a short walk from the back of the house but on level ground so wasn’t too bad. What spoilt the view of the house was there were setting up for a outdoor cinema that evening so couldn’t get a decent view of the house without the vehicles being in the way.To the left hand side of the house is the shop & a outside cafe which we had a drink from before going around the house. We entered the house just as the heavens were opting with rain. There were guides in most rooms who were all very knowledgeable on the house & previous guests. There was a set route to follow so was good, they advise you to wear masks which most people were doing which was good. There were plenty of rooms to see in the house & we were in there for probably an hour. We then left the house via the kitchen & then had a look around some of the gardens & shop where there was a good selection of wines & other items to choose from. In the afternoon the rain didn’t know what to do, so we had a brief look around the Avery & the grounds before catching the bus back to the car park. We were told there is a cafe in the stables but we didn’t go as there were too many steps to get their but later found out the bus stops there.
Waddesdon Manon is worth while visiting if in the area or slightly further afield.

Arrived at car park shortly before time booked. Ticket office all closed up and visitors segregated into a queue for the bus (if pre-paid) or to walk up the hill.
Temporary booth part way up the longish walk to the manor, only needed name and not to see the tickets we had printed off.
Advised we could go on garden tour even if it made us late for manor visit, however whilst on this tour others had been advised to get to the entry within 5 min of time slot or you would miss your place.
Garden tour was quite informative with plenty of details about how Baron Rothschild built the place on an empty hillside.
Left the tour early and went around the manor which was quite nice. Lots of beautiful artefacts and exquisitely decorated rooms to see.
Followed the house tour with a snack in the stables café - expensive with a paper cup of tea costing £2.80.
Then able to wander around the extensive gardens before walking down the hill to the car park.

It's lovely to know you liked the garden tour, exploring the house and discovering the collections. We hope to welcome you back to Waddesdon again soon!

What a wonderful building and the contents are just as fantastic, each visit we see something new as the collection is always being added to. This is a "do not miss" NT property, it's certainly my favourite and I have visited many. It's a long walk to and from the car park to the house and there is a lot of walking when you get there so pay the £2 return bus fare it's well worth it. It's better to get on the bus back to the car park from the house as this is the first pick up, several people are often left at the stables to wait for the next bus.

We went there yesterday and it was very disappointing. All the statues were covered with tarpaulins and the only thing to really look at was the birds in the aviary. We made it last 2 hours but that was a push and for over £30 for 2 adults it wasn't worth it, go for a walk in your local wood instead. To charge for the bus is a rip off too as the car park is so far from the house, in the winter they could open the car park which is closer to the manor but they want £20 for that privilege.
I would wait for the spring and summer and not waste your money to see a few snowdrops and daffodils. Also £3.25 for a small hot chocolate in a plastic cup sitting outside in the cold.
Really disappointed that so much was closed or covered up but still charged full price.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We’re pleased to read that you enjoyed seeing the birds in the Aviary, however we’re sorry you were disappointed with other aspects of your recent visit. We introduced a small shuttle bus charge in summer 2020, this helps towards the costs of running the buses. We are sorry that you were disappointed with our catering prices, we aim to offer high quality refreshments and as a charity the money we make helps to ensure that Waddesdon can be enjoyed by future generations. During the winter months, the statues at Waddesdon are covered to protect them from the colder weather however they have now been uncovered so we do hope to welcome you back for another visit.

Will the Christmas event still be going ahead on Saturday due to the new tier system?
Written 17 December 2020
Their website and Facebook page has all the information. They are outside so it is still open. Only the light show down in the Stables is closed from Saturday.

If I book tickets for Christmas at Waddesdon are dogs allowed? I couldn’t see it mentioned on the website.
Written 29 September 2020
Dogs are usually allowed on the grounds, on a lead, but not in the house or any other building on site. They also were not allowed on the bus up to house from the carpark either.

Has anyone experienced the lights and Christmas fair with disabilities, I’m thinking of taking my mum but she uses an electric chair and I’d like to know what the accessibility for the lights and the fair is like?
Written 15 September 2019
Sorry I don't know about the lights but I do know they are very disabled friendly. I rang them when my husband and I went to visit and they were very helpful. Good luck.
