Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands. As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire. The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic. Please note: Chilterns Gateway Centre is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed by the National Trust.

Took the kids who really enjoyed the scenery, the kites, para and normal gliders. Only complaint is parking can be limited, waited in the overflow and someone left in ten minutes. Then the ticket machine broke, had to deal to visitor centre to buy ticket but told I did not have to place the ticket in the car as I... More

The Dunstable Downs are a beautiful place to visit. There are some great walks and you can hardly believe that you are so close to Luton and London!

Wonderful what ever the weather. There is a tarmac path making it accessible to all. Walk along the ridge or divert off down the hill if you are able. enjoy the gliders and amazing views. There is cafe if one wants and plenty of benches and room for picnics. Wrap up well. The wind blows in all seasons.

We visited the downs over the weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. Unfortunately, like most places now, you have to pay for parking that is £2.50 all day. It was fresh and windy and we went for a walk and flew a kite. The ice cream van sells very nice ice cream cones at a reasonable price. Worked up a good... More

I have been pass the downs on many occasions but never actually stopped. We decide to visit to see what the walks are like. Well we weren't disappointed!! There is a £2.50 parking charge but we are national trust member so it was free. We visited the coffee shop as my husband loves the sausage rolls they sell.. (they are... More

Great place to spend a few hours on a sunny day. Keep your eyes open for stray kites on the weekend though! Great views across Bedfordshire. Good cafe and shop too.

I love Dunstable downs, but since the National Trust has taken it over they are forcing local people away. For decades its been a beautiful place for us to take our children. Fly a kite, chill out and have a picnic. The National Trust have turned it into a giant car park! Cash generating scam. They say the moneys for... More

Great for kite flying with my 8 & 15 year old . Cafe was good for a cuppa , snacks & ice creams , obviously it's a bit windy but the sun was out and there's a shady area to sit in if wanted to . Overall a lovely place to stop off on our way home from Legoland to... More

When I visited this 20 years ago this was a hillside with nice views and a small car park. Now it seem to have been converted into the Dunsable downs national trust experience !! Car park is 2.50, you can buy brass hares, plastic tat and overpriced Lattes in the giant cafe / retail outlet. It amazes me the national... More
