Overview
More
The Martha's Vineyard Museum is privileged to be the steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The East Chop, Edgartown, and Gay Head lighthouses are not only historic reminders of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. Beyond their important functional role, these structures also offer visitors spectacular views of the breathtaking beauty of Vineyard Sound, the simple elegance of Edgartown Harbor & Chappaquiddick, and the majestic cliffs of Aquinnah. The Gay Head Lighthouse is open seasonally. A lighthouse keeper will be available and the doors will be open during designated hours. Parking is available, but limited, on Aquinnah Circle. The Vineyard Transit Authority (VTA) busses do have routes to the lighthouse.

It was wonderful, from the knowledgeable staff to the views! I'm afraid of height but I conquered my fear that day haha! Well worth the small fee, it was awesome to experience the history of the light.

The Aquinnah cliffs, the shops, the restaurant and the Gay Head Lighthouse, make that attraction unique. The many views are spectacular. The lighthouse is open daily to the public from 7/1 to 10/10. This lighthouse has been moved 129 ft. from the original location on...More

The Gay Head Lighthouse on Martha’s Vineyard was a quick photo op with our bus driver. We were allowed to take pictures in passing. In 1998, the town nearest the lighthouse changed its name from Gay Head to Aquinnah, the Wampanoag name for “end of...More

Stunning views all around! I love the history of it all and the fact that the shops (not open off-season) are all run by members of the tribe. There's a beautiful park out front and access to a few different trails that go beachside or...More

The weather was so beautiful for September that this tour was a must. The lighthouse is rich in history. It had been moved further inland due to erosion and will have to be moved yet again in the future. The beach down below is a...More

A beautiful setting on the Gay Head cliffs. The lighthouse has been moved back from the cliffs due to erosion. This should keep it safe for the next 150 years.
