Took this trip with four other people, and we had a phenomenal day. Our guide, Elaria, was fun, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable. The cenotes were incredible , and the snorkeling with the sea turtles was a unique experience. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone

Truly a fantastic location, however a lot of seaweed and a lack of sea life that I'm used to seeing. But I will tell you you should try it. It's hit and miss but worth the risk.

We arrived early one morning by Colectivo in Akumal bay to swim with turtles. We probably out in the water only about 5-10 minutes before we saw our first turtle. The water was calm and not very deep. The bay is beautiful but started to get crowded with tour groups. Definitely the highlight our Mexico trip.

My mom and I came upon this randomly when we decided to jump off the highway and head into Akumal. The experience was well worth it. You'll have a guide take you out to the reef where you get to see an assortment of aquatic animals. The experience is like stepping into another world. You'll get to see sea turtles,... More

This was a great day swimming with the turtles. The beach is beautiful, clear of seaweed, a little rocky when entering, watch your footing. The beach is free but you must rent a life vest if you are planning to swim above the sea grass. (Inflatable vests are not permitted). We had a mask and snorkle so all we had... More

The snorkeling was great but there are way too many snorkelers at one time. And it is disheartening to see how many people, both tourists and locals, do not respect the environment or the sea life. It has gotten to the point that the Mexican government has stepped in with restrictions: no use of fins, flotation devises and more. But... More

We swam with the turtlesfrom a boat trip. What a fantastic experience for the whole family, we had my little boy who was only 6 at the time and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The guided boat tours were great as the guides pointed out where to look and explained what species if they seen any other fish rays etc .

Four years ago my two sons and I hired a guide from the Akumal dive shop to take us out to see the turtles. When we arrived with all of our own snorkel gear he looked at us and said, "You know, you have all your own gear, you can just go out in the bay and see the turtles,... More

The snorkeling in Akumal Bay has all but been eliminated over that last year. This is a result of the swimming area being reduced to almost nothing. Enforcement is very heavily done, there are armed guards on duty on the weekend. Additionally, there monitors on sea kayaks at the end of the boundary. These drastic actions have taken place over... We snorkeled here through a Viator excursion. Most beautiful beach I have ever seen, and we saw 10 turtles and 4 stingrays during a 45 minute snorkel. Great experience! Bathroom availability is scarce, plan accordingly.
