Solar Fortun is a beautiful family-owned winery on a lovely property at the end of a very long side road on the Francisco Zarco side of the Valle. Their wine is very high-quality and reasonably priced as well. We arranged a tasting for 10 guests for a special birthday celebration in the Valle and the owner was so gracious to open early to accommodate our itinerary. The tasting on their beautiful patio, surrounded by the vineyard and beautiful trees, was so fun and relaxing. Highly recommend!

Serendipity brought me to Solar Fortun. It was hands down the best winery we visited. We were a group of 12 and had our visit arranged through Boca Roja Wine Tours.

Santiago personally talked us through each tasting. He was friendly, personable, and so obviously passionate about the property and the wine they produce (which by the way is incredible). We ordered the tuna tartare, cauliflower, marlin tacos, and ceviche. The tuna tartare alone will have me coming back.

Its a beautiful quaint space owned and operated by lovely people. It is exactly what you hope for when you visit Mexican wine country. We walked away with a few bottles of wine and salsa and I can't wait to come back for more.

The title of this review are actually the words written back to me from the Winemaker and owner of Solar Fortun, Santiago Lopez Viana. My family and I have made annual trips to the Valle de Guadalupe for the last several years. We have been to over 45 individual vineyards in the Valle. We enjoy going to new vineyards as the Valle seems to have an endless supply of great places which are all very unique and very special. We stay in the Valle for a week and typically the Valle is pretty quiet during the early week with more vineyards open for tastings and tours during the latter part of the week. We have been looking for a vineyard who would host our party of 11 with wine and food pairing and a robust discussion of the wine making process and quick tour of the vineyard. A good friend suggested Solar Fortun as a "place with excellent wines including the 2017 wine of the year". We were driving through the village of Francisco Zarco and saw the sign. It was a Friday so the vineyard was open for tastings. We sat under the Oaks on a very nice patio in the middle of the vineyard at the end of a canyon. It was quiet and although a warm day there is always a breeze through the back of the canyon. We enjoyed the wines which are made with French grape varietals not typically used in the Valle (Mourvedre, Petit Verdot). We enjoyed the tasting and the conversation with the gentleman serving the wines. Turns out...it was Santiago. As we were checking out and buying a few of these excellent wines I asked Santiago if he would entertain the idea of opening on a Wednesday for a late lunch food pairing and wine pairing. He said yes and it was arranged with advance payment and a minimum. The four course meal is specifically designed for the four wines paired with it. The quality of dishes are outstanding. Santiago's lovely wife is a classically trained chef and he attention to detail in the food quality, pairing a preparation was impressive. The wine and food were perfectly complimentary of each other...enhancing the flavors or each instead of contrasting like so many do. It was an exercise in gastronomic harmony. Santiago served the meal and wines and explained the history of the vineyard and answered all of our questions. Penn State followed by UC Davis for winemaking...you will be impressed by Santiago and his wife's dedication to excellence. Solar Fortun has wine that is served on the menu of the French Laundry in Napa, no small feat. The wine, food and experience is sublime...the back of that canyon is quiet and beautiful. This is relaxation at a whole new level. Santiago lived up to every word of his promise....this was an experience that rarely exists...take advantage while you can. The best of the best.

My wife and I were visiting the valley from San Diego and have been going very year for the last 5 years so we know our Mexican wine at this point. On Saturday we went to Solar Fortun for the first time and it become one of our favorite places in Valle de Guadalupe!! Santiago the winemaker led us through our tastings while his girlfriend cooked us lunch. We even chatted with his father while we ate. Truly a unique experience and we plan to return again!! I highly recommend the ceviche and the Noble Cru wine!!

I almost don't want to write this review so that I can keep this AMAZING winery all to myself.

Why is Solar Fortun my new favorite winery in Valle Guadalupe:
- Location: Check (under old growth oak trees in a side valley with a terrific breeze even when it was over 95*F/40*C in the Valle)
- Wine: Check (easily the best wines we have tasted in 3 visits to the Valle...one is now served at French Landry in Napa)
- Service: Check (a personalized tasting with the vintner/co-owner Santiago - who spoke perfect English and really knew wine - he studied at Penn State and UC Davis)
- Price: Check (the tasting was waived if you buy a few bottles of wine...which were very well priced from $13-$22)

If you love wine, winemakers, and the winery experience, then Solar Fortun is the exact sort of place that you go to!

This family owned winery is on such a beautiful property surrounded by oaks. The passion and family values and closeness is felt throughout the entire experience. We were treated to an amazing private food and wine pairing by the owners brother. So knowledgeable, passionate and proud. Wines and food were equally spectacular. The chef is the owners wife and is an award winner! We were even fortunate to meet the winemaker, his adorable baby boy and the grandfather. What a magical experience.

Oh my goodness this place rocks. We were in the Valle for 4 days and this was easily the best stop we had on our our. It is a bit of a ride on a dirt road but please don’t give up. This family run business is awesome. Spectacular oak trees, killer food and unbeatable vino makes this place a must visit. The staff is amazing and beyond helpful. Please support this up and coming locally owned vinacola.

Our friends suggested we visit this family ran winery because of its delicious food. We loved the food and their Rosé. (We didn't try any of their other wines though.) It's a little bit of a drive on a dirt road; however, it was well worth the dust. We all shared a couple of appetizers. Our favorites were their ceviche and tuna tartar. We seriously thought about returning the next day. This place is a must when visiting VG.
