This place is for both young and old. The kids enjoy wading in the water on the top of the fountain and the elderly enjoy seeing cargo ships going by. This place is even for teenagers and high school students. There is a skate board park that looks like a boat and they certainly enjoy that! When I came here,... More

Beautiful park, very clean and had a great time watching the ships pass through the lock. A skate park is also close by. Informational signs were also very helpful.

We popped by the Lock 8 Gateway Park to watch a ship go through. We were able to learn some facts about how the canal came to be as well as the types of ships that pass through and we could enjoy it at leisure as there are no crowds to push you here or there. No pressure just relax... More

The park here at Lock 8 is kept up by very meticulous landscape workers who are always planting and taking care of lawns, etc. Nice place to go for a walk or stop and view the ships going past.

Lock 8 gateway park is a beautifully maintained park with swings, a play structure, gorgeous gardens and a fountain that you're not supposed to jump in but... anyhow, there's also a skate/MX/Scooter park that big Kids love to play on too. Aside from all this.2 it's built beside Lock 8, this last lock before lake Erie, you can watch ships... More

This park is wonderfully situated next to the canal, providing visitors with a perfect view of the canal and any boats or sailing ships that come through the locks. There are also beautiful gazebos to just sit and rest as well. The park features a covered picnic area and then at one end a highlight for our teens is a... More

I grew up a couple of blocks away from this Park. I could see the ships pass by from my bedroom. On a summer night we were kept awake with the bridge siren and the lock master talking the boat through the locks. Most of us learned to swim in the canal. There used to be cribbing on the other... Lock#8 the last lock of The Welland Canal, it use to be the world's longest lock due to the fact that it could accommodate 2 ships at the same time. The fountain is nice ,all in all not a bad place to see the ships.

Great place to sit and watch the ships go through the canal and spend some time with the family. Quiet and peaceful 99.99% of the time so take along a book and spend a few hours.
