Our Museum can be found in Northern Cape Breton along the Cabot Trail Nova Scotia in the "Top of the Island" Region. We have a beautiful exhibit hall that includes local artifacts along with professional displays that take you back in time while getting a taste of our local heritage. We also have a blacksmith forge, settlers' garden, and a historic Church building that has become our Culture Centre where we feature talented musicians and other events each week. Our Museum also serves as the Information Centre for the the area, so there are many great reasons to stop in and visit us!

We thought we'd stop in for a minute...just to see what we could find out about the area. Kendall, the attendant of the day, was very pleasant...along with a couple of locals who talked with us for quite a while. The Museum is very interesting, very well displayed (good lighting). The building is quite new & everything is very clean.... More

For a mere $2.00 you will see artifacts from times gone by, as well as learn about the history of the people of Cape Breton. Although everything is in one small room, it is divided into sections such as fishing, home life, school, farming, the wars and such. There is even a blacksmith and I now have a handmade nail... Before coming to Cape Breton Island from Australia, we had read stories describing the lives of the early settlers. This museum brings to life the conditions under which those families lived. This really is a true gem of a museum and the historical background will pay dividends for the rest of your visit to the Island. I found it truly... More

We loved the extensive history on display at the museum. But the really fun item, for me, was the huge map showing the area. When you think you've seen and know it all, try and find where the photos on display were taken.....especially the one with the snow bank 10-12 ft high....And also be sure and enjoy the slide show... The North Highlands Community Museum provides a nice stop during a long day's drive along the Cabot Trail. While small, the exhibits detailing the history, culture, and daily life of the region offer plenty of learning opportunities, especially if one isn't familiar with the area or had a chance to visit museums in Halifax. The day we visited, there weren't... More

Half-way through the Cabot Trail we came upon this unexpected treasure of a museum. Very small but very good. Fascinating information about the Titanic. Very well-kept. Friendly staff

To really enjoy this area, you need historic perspective. This museum supplies it in just the right size. Get out of the car for a visit here and the rest of the Cape will be made better.

This is a great place. The reenactors are very knowledgeable and incredibly nice. Make sure you go to the house with the old telephone switchboard. The lady there will regale you with stories about the switch board but also many other things from the area as she experienced the first hand and has a keen interest in local history. Overall... We stopped here to see what the place was like. It is a beautiful place & the staff was very friendly. We purchased a few items from the gift shop. Luckily, we live on the beautiful of Island of Cape Breton & we'll definitely be back again to visit your museum & Gift shop and stay a little longer.
