I firmly believe that this statue honors Sakakawea's (Sacagawea) role in Lewis and Clark expedition. It was at nearby Mandan Lodge she and her husband joined expedition.

An excellent sign detailing history of Sakakawea stands adjacent to her statue which stands between the state museum and the state capital Well worth taking a few minutes to seek out

The statue is impressive, but the plaque with the info provided is enlightening. Well worth the time it takes to read it.

It was nice to come upon her again....I'd first become familiar with Sakakawea in Great Falls. A woman of great courage and strength.

Didn't realize that it was behind the building at first.. Found it by walking the grounds, and heading to the State Building.

The statue is well done and the information plaque let me know some about this woman. A great picture opportunity.

Elegant statue of Sakakawea and child that hopefully makes you rethink the stories many children learn about the Lewis and Clark expedition.
