My daughter and I are always looking for places to walk our dogs when it gets dark early in winter. We visited and walked the park loops in the evening with our 3 dogs and it was very nice . There is also a dog park, which also has a area for small dogs. There were a lot of people walking and also quite a few dogs in the dog park. Will definitely return for weekday walks in winter.

Great area but I see the name of this park is misspelled! It should be MacRae, maybe the first person to review it spelled it wrong? Lots of dog walkers and people just walking the trails. Clean bathrooms and lots of trash containers, too bad some dog walkers toss their pets filled waste bags into teh woods though.

5-year old and I flew in to Wilmington/Beaufort for school break and needed to get some fresh air. We only went to the playground, and I was impressed. Wheelchair accessible (so scooter/stroller friendly), wheelchair swing (though you need to reserve to get access/training). Lots of great play equipment for kids with sensory issues/on the Spectrum. Plenty of picnic pavilions with family celebrations. Lots of nice, tall, shady pines. It would be a great place for a picnic/carry out. Walking trails. Tennis courts. Workout space with equipment. Baseball diamonds. Basketball courts. So glad we could burn off some steam before heading to a soul food place for dinner! Ample parking. An excellent family destination for frugal and fun family travelers.

While this is a pleasant walking park , it is still sadly dedicated to an oligarchic, Jim Crow real estate developer who instigated an overthrow of a duly elected biracial town government in 1898 resulting in the death of scores of individuals and the overthrow of the duly elected government in favor of white racists. Oddly the City is still fearful to correct this dubious honor and is a sad reminder of the mentality of " let's not talk about it while honoring a past criminal act" Very strange like running into an "Adolph Hitler Memorial Park in Germany. A piece of Southern American lingering hypocrisy.

My family & I have used Hugh McRae Park many times over many years. The trees and foliage are well-maintained & plentiful. Lots of places & equipment for kids to enjoy, a great walking trail, pretty bridges. I've been to weddings at the park, cook-outs, even 1 funeral service. Picnic areas, benches, even grills are available. Centrally located, this park is beautiful; plenty of parking, and 2 entrances/exits. We, here in Wilmington, are so fortunate to have such a lovely facility.

My family and I visited this park a few times while visiting the wilmington / wrightsville beach area this past summer. There are several playgrounds and bathrooms. also good walking areas and a dog walk area / dog park area. This is a great park to get outside and let your children play and enjoy being outside.very easy to find and easy access to other sites.

Very nice, and relatively new, equipment for kids. Slide adn swings for different age groups. In the spring there is baseball. Picnic tables, walking trail and bike trails make this a very relaxing place.

I recently visited Hugh MacRae Park while driving to a customers house and had a few minutes to spare. This Park is huge and so well maintained it is amazing. There is so much to see and do here. There are picnic shelters, ball fields, basketball courts, a paved walking/jogging trail, children's play area, dog park, tennis courts, and more....

There are so many diverse things to do at Hugh MacRae Park that you cannot do them all in just one day or visit. And this park is maintained so meticulously it is truly amazing. The landscaping and cleanliness is well beyond excellent.

Hugh MacRae Park is well worth a visit or two or three.........

Hugh McRae Park has added a new splash pad and it's great. My grandson who is 2 1/2 yrs. old had the time of his life. He did not want to leave after a couple of hours of play but Grammy was tired out just watching him!
