I've been on the Saturday Cemetery tours ($10 contribution) with the Superintendent--he picks a theme and we explore graves related to that period of history. Robin Triplett, a retired social studies teacher, also sponsors walks in the park ($10 fee). In addition to history, you'll find lovely plantings, azaleas, trees and QUIET. There are self-guiding maps at the gate if... More

Very much enjoyed the tour I took at Oakdale Cemetery. There is so much history and beautiful stonework. The tour guide did a mostly good job. He could loosen up a bit and be more personable with the guests. Overall I loved it and would definitely go back.

There are many historic grave markers dating back to 1855 including some famous Wilmington residents mentioned in the ghost walk tour.

Two months ago we went to cemetery to celebrat the life of our Brother in law. A very special person. This is a very lovely place for one of our Angels to spend the rest of his time to rest.

There is a pamphlet with highlights, but in addition to the stories, the carvings and ornaments are worth exploring.

The older section of Oakdale is quite lovely and hosts the resting places of many famous Wilmingtonians.....the entire Bellamy family and David Brinkley just to name a few, but many more. The live oak section is also beautiful. The cemetery offers guided tours, but just walking around on your own for an afternoon is pleasant.

We were on our way to the National Cemetery and came across this one and decided to stroll in for a bit. Got the see the grand peacock in full glory strutting around.

We enjoyed walking around seeing the various stones; nice cemetery but it was a little shabby. We did see a peacock sitting on a grave stone and that made our day. It's worth a visit if you are already in the area. The National Cemetery is only a few block away and worth a drive through.

We took the guided tour and really could go back every Saturday. I was amazed by it's size and historical figures. Guide was entertaining and knowledgeable.
