This is one reason Wilmington is a great place to visit. There is a guided tour that is great and very detailed of its history.

Many places are closed around Wilmington on Sundays but at the last minute we spotted this mansion which was open until 5. We got there at 4.15 expecting to have missed the last tour but we were offered the chance of a self-guided visit with a very informative printed sheet. We prefer self-guided anyway and our only complaint is that... More

Touring the home is a really interesting step back in time. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the family who originally owned the home as well as its later history. The home and grounds are beautiful and well kept and you can wander around on your own after (or in lieu of) the guided tour. The slave quarters in a... More

The mansion and grounds are beautiful and the mix of Neoclassical/Greek/Italianate architecture is very impressive--but the storied past of this elaborate mansion truly enhances the overall tour experience. The tour guide didn't just "rattle off" dates and occurrances--but took you on an adventure through time, as seen through the eyes of the mansion: The everyday life of the family who... More

They have a free day once a year, where they have pony rides and animal feedings. We go for this. We do take a tour during this day, and it is fun. I'm not blown away by the architecture or the antique furniture, but it is still moderately interesting. I like the Christmas dinner menu.

This home fell into disrepair but has return to its former glory. The history of the people and the time before, during and after the Civil War are interesting to learn. The loss suffered by many to war and disease are tragic. A beautiful example of a period home.

It was interesting to see the architecture of the time.. However, it probably would have been better if we had grabbed either the audio tour or taking the guided tour. Nice rainy day activity.

Our tour guide really new her history and gave us a sense of the antebellum south - not preaching but certainly making any thinking person aware that the wealth which created this mansion was derived from the shameful subjugation of other people. The tour includes the house in which the slaves lived showing the reality of their existence. When you... More

The Bellamy Mansion was the site of our wedding in 2006. The staff was friendly and very easy with which to work. The wedding itself was on the back steps offering plenty of space for our guests. The interior rooms were especially inviting and were typical of an "old South" experience. We were married in April which is a pleasant... More
