Well, if you're visiting Wilmington you'll want to walk the River Walk along the Cape Fear River (yes, that Robert Mitchum movie and later version of Cape Fear was filmed here!). There are shops, boats and restaurants (we favor Elijah's & Pilot House) along the route which we head to after volunteering at Thalian Hall on 3rd & Chestnut. Saturdays... More

The river and bridges are nice. Only had a little bit of the river walk to see the view due to reconstruction

The river has fast currents and is tidal as well which can make for tricky waters when boating. As a sailor, I travel on the Cape Fear River using the tides...difficult to fight them.

Seeing the Cape Fear from the Riverwalk is beautiful, especially on nice days out and is a good place to watch the sunset or people watch. However, there have been extensive renovations ongoing for months now that block large parts of the riverwalk. Also, as a local, it just gets old after awhile.

The beautiful, free flowing Cape Fear adds lustre to Wilmington, making it one of the gems in N Carolina, a state already brimming with beauty and history. Wilmington is set to take its place as one of the places to visit in the USA, along with the Cape Fear River.

The boardwalk allows you to walk along the Cape Fear River, and there are a plethora of different eateries with seating which overlooks the CF river as well. The bridge connects between Wilmington and Leland and can be viewed from the boardwalk. You can also the see the battleship across the river which you can visit as well.
