Excellent small museum - and it's free!

This museum is a gem - the exhibits are attractive and easy to follow, tracing the region's maritime history from prehistoric times to the present.

Located at the center of Southport, the museum has interesting displays on the past history of the area. Staff is very friendly and helpful. This month a small overview on WWI which provided some good history about NC during that time. Free to visit, check it out.

This museum is small but chalked full of history. This museum is FREE admission and great for all ages. They have lots of good relics from the past to see and read about. Good way to spend an hour or so. Would recommend this tour to everyone.

North Carolina offers three maritime museums, one at Beaufort, on at Hatteras (the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum,) and one at Southport. This was our first visit to the Southport location. My wife and I are regular Museum visitors... she's a retired Museum professional. We found the NC Maritime Museum at Southport to be well laid, out, and well maintained,... More

The maritime museum at Southport, NC is small and concentrates on the maritime history of the local area. It is a block off the main street and a block from the river, next to the visitor center. It is worth a visit to get a taste of the local history, expecially if you are not familiar with the area.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The exhibits are nice and informative -check out the periscope form the sub. Admission is free but there is a donation bucket to help them out. GREAT way to kill an hour or so and get a little education at the same time!

This little museum is a wonderful place to visit to learn more about the history of Southport and see some interesting artifacts from the area. It is good for young and old and everything in-between. If you visit Southport, be sure to drop in. You can spend 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on whether you like to browse the... More

Check out the new space at the NC Maritime Museum at Southport. From a grass roots effort by local history buffs to share their nautical treasures with their neighbors, the museum has evolved into a professional resource with important artifacts and documents. A well trained and cheerful staff welcomes visitors and locals to find out more about our history.

I love this place. We live 250 miles from here, but visit 6-8 year. We rent a close by split house community place- above marina in August with grandchildren. All the other times we stay at The Inn at River Oaks. I have probably purchased over $600 worth of local history books and media from Museum. My personal library looks... More
