A visit if you want to see snow in June!
First of all, check with the rental company if you intend to drive the rental vehicle to Mount Buller during Winter as the agreement might not allow. I booked my accommodation off the mountain which is at Merrijig and it is about 15mins drive to the snow. Otherwise there are plenty of day tour from the CBD that you can sign up for. Buy the vehicle pass online can save you a lot if you drive. Check the website for snow chain declaration.
I rented snow chains from Mansfield Ski Discount store.
Tips: It is cheaper to rent your snow apparels at Mansfield too!
Follow the directions on where to park after you drive past the resort entrance.
There is free shuttle service provided once you enter the village.
Book your Toboggan tickets online and collect them at the self service counter or buy it when you are there. Long queue for ticket collection even though I bought online (you must exchange for the physical tickets even if you have purchased online. I was told that is how the system works...)
Everywhere I went was long queue as I visited during the Queue's Birthday which was public holiday for the locals. Too crowded! Did not try the ski lift and lessons as I was travelling with young and old.
All of us enjoyed our day at the snow. Worth visiting if you are in Melbourne for winter!

Great beginner slopes, there's a ski school assessible by foot (without needing to ski like at Falls Creek). If you're more experienced, I highly recommend going to Falls Creek instead, as a lot of absolute beginners and tourists crowd this area.
The family run is really scenic.
The food options are not the best, and I've eaten at many of the spots here.
Some of the staff are a hit or miss. Some really have really bad attitude, but personally my first ski instructor was an absolute angel.

I have empathy for the employment challenges many are facing, however it’s really impacting Mt Buller with many poor staff and restaurants + lifts closed. We also found the entire mountain wildly overpriced ($12 for a reheated frozen pie, $17 for a plate of hot chips, $6 can of coke etc.. ) . Our lodge even tried to charge us $50 to store our bags for 4hrs on checkout day, the first time I have ever experienced this in 30 years of travelling. The overnight parking situation is an unorganised debacle, we waited 75 mins in a freezing carpark for a lift to our lodge with 10 bags and cold kids.. only to discover our unit actually has its own empty carpark under our lodge that we were not permitted to use because we didn’t own the unit.. hard to fathom. Finally the lifts have little / no signage in them, unless you’re a regular, it’s v hard to actually know where you are. A good little supermarket and some good runs to be had on the slopes, however we will head somewhere else next year.

Overrated overpriced rude staff, everyone wanting to make a dollar the only helpful person here was the in the visitor information centre (blonde lady) who took the time to explain where we take the bus to the summit. $46 per person return to simply catch a chair lift back to your car! $65 per car entry, simple jumpers from one clothing store were over $500 each!!!!!!!! Not to mention a small throw blanket is $250 plus each, we bought snow boots from Anaconda for $79 each and the exact boots are sold here for $130!
It’s an experience to be had then you realise why you haven’t been before!
Restaurant menu on the summit you have to google each dish to know what it is and is sooooo overpriced we didn’t bother ordering. The cafe on the summit has nothing but cakes and coffee. No hot food at all! You’ll need a good $500 per person to visit just for the day!
Was so not worth it! Overcrowded

I don’t know why it’s the most popular snow resort in vic.
Easy, safe and least scary mountain to drive up and down, amazing shuttle service from the carpark, but that’s where the benefits end.
Rude parking staff, I know how to park my car I don’t need you rolling your eyes at me.
We got to the village and it was just overwhelming.
At the toboggan slope, (with loud music which was not necessary, the natural sounds of crushing snow and kids playing is all that is needed), at a cost, is tiny and not very much fun (the one near the carpark was closed). Although the staff did a good job of keeping people safe and not walking onto oncoming sliders and potentially getting crashed into.
We went on the scenic chairlift, it was nice but for what it was, was not worth the $$.
I printed my passes before we left.
We live locally, and won’t be returning. I took my son to experience mount buller and was not worth it. Mount buffalo, even without guaranteed snow (with machines) was free, bigger (faster) toboggan slopes, quiet, and a warm cafe.

This mountain must be a joke. I usually go to Falls creek and Hotham and try to avoid Buller. This weekend's trip away reminded me why I avoid this mountain.
The mountain is extremely overpriced with very little to offer. Kids classes are poorly run and with parents trying to shelter in one of the local restaurants we were only given 45 minutes sittings and then had to sit out in the snow and rain. The wait staff were extremely rude and kept an actual timer. This was after we spent a heap of money for overpriced pizza and drinks.
I paid for half a day lift pass. Let me make it clear that this is an absolute scam. The half day starts from 2:00 p.m. . I managed to get one run in before I realised the line to leave the mountain was approximately an hour long. We then try to line up to leave the mountain at approximately 4:00 p.m. stood in the rain for an hour and a half to get on the bus and be taken to the car park. This was $100 to catch the lift once because the lines were so long to not only get on but to also leave the mountain. We even tried to be sneaky and walk across to the northern express to catch the lift down however the buses on the mountain refused to go to the summit and continue to only take customers to destinations that were considered popular. This meant we missed our opportunity to catch the northern express because it shot at 4:30. I have no words except for you aren't absolute joke

If I could give a lower than 1 would. 2 hours waiting in the freezing cold for bus to take us back to our car park. There was no logistical management of people getting on or off buses. There were hundreds of us all trying to cram into buses with no direction or guidance from Mt Buller staff.
People were screaming, pushing, yelling, pulling to get on and off the bus. The bus driver was screaming there were too many people on the bus with no help from Mt Buller staff.
I had 4 children with me who were hysterical with the chaos surrounding them. Mt Buller management are so lucky no one was hurt or injured in the chaos.
There is no where indoors where you can sit and eat your lunch or snack. Every single cafe, hotel, restaurant we visited was jam packed, that we couldn’t eat our lunch until 3pm.
Save your money and visit Mt Hotham, Mt Baw Baw or Lake Mountain. Because Mt Buller is terrible experience.

Visited in the last weekend of the snow season so you’d expect things to be discounted as there was minimal snow. Everything full price except the tobogganing.
This place is very confusing for a first timer, no signs and when you ask for help all staff are rude and condescending treating you like you should know everything. No clear advice or signs or where to ski for beginners and no help from any attendants around the slopes.
The attendant at the ski school told us we needed us lift pass for skiing so we paid over $200 for this. Little did we know the lifts only take you to the super experienced slopes which you can’t ski down if you’re a beginner. We were only told this afterwards so we were tricked into buying the lift pass and never used it!
I would not recommend this place for first timers due to the extremely unhelpful staff and the lack of any info or help. Also the whole place is a total rip off, food is overpriced. Do not visit. Unless you’re a regular or pro skier you’ll be treated like crap. Should’ve spent our money on a snow trip overseas..

My partner and I decided to go to Mt Bulla for an expensive treat and exciting treat, we ended up being treated with the worst hospitality and found it impossible to go out for dinner, as all restaurants kitchens were closed by 8:00 forcing us to have a take away pizza priced at $25 each at which the staff couldn’t even bring to our table, barely being nicer then a $5 pizza from Dominos. The overall experience on the snow was good for while it last and accommodation was great, but do not recommend staying over night, costing well over $1000 for a night and providing the bare minimum service leaving a very uneventful and expensive holiday.
When you booking ensuring you check the weather and get lucky, as the first night of our stay weather only permitted also limited 1 tiny ski lift to be open and waiting times of 30min + for 1 min of snowboarding. Out of everyone’s control we then spend the whole 2nd day in the medical centre as my partner had a sprained wrist avoiding a collision with a beginner boarder on our first run in the morning.
Recommend only day trips as the night life on the mountain was terrible, and be prepared for things to change and not be perfect condition.

Not very Pleasant experience for us. We were group of 8 families. We spent hell lot of money on buying snow clothes and boots and equipment to make sure that experience is memorable and beautiful. Spend heaps of money on car service and tyre change etc to make sure that vehicle is safe and reliable. Traveled all the way 3.5 hours. Paid for chains and went to check post. First staff member in the road let us pass after confirming with us to join the queue for pass. Traffic was very slow and after a long wait in queue. They let 7 cars to pass the check post booth and did not let us pass. as approx 3 minutes ago they were informed that parking is full. Many cars were also coming through. Waited for at least 15 to 18 minutes. Explained them that it’s a group trip, all 7 are gone and last car is ours but staff extremely rude did not want to hear anything and moved away from the booth and told us to leave. Ruined the whole day family trip.
3.5 hours backwards to drive. Altogether 7 hours drive and hell lot of money spent for nothing. Compared to services they offer, charges are many times higher but system and resources are still same old times, They need to improve the system for sure, should have few margin of numbers of cars for unseen scenarios / situations. Or should inform before hand that until this time they will be taking cars or improve on resources, or offer compensation on spendings at-least chains and should have trained staff, with improved communication system Etc. so not only adults but poor kids are not returning back crying with broken heart, left apart from rest of the group with the worse memory of this trip.

Hi,
What’s the start dates of season at mount Buller? Do we need to book the parking and ride share and car chains during the season or through out the year I’m planning to book for 1st and 2nd June, do i need to book parking, entry pass, ride share and the car chains? When I see the website, it does not give the option of booking of these services for 1st of June. Can anyone please guide me? Regards

Looking for a recommendation for a pet friendly holiday home to rent in Mt Buller area please. Or other suggestions for pet friendly holiday home rental in other snow areas would be much appreciated. Looking to travel July 2020 from Adelaide.

Hi. Could someone share how to go to mount buller from southerncross station? And, do I need to book the bus tickets early or just walk in at Vline? Lastly, how much is it to pay for the bus? Because I will go there (mount buller) but not under tour package.
Many Thanks.

Hi
The shuttle service is free. Whether you are travelling via public transport or private , you have to park your vehicle below and then the free shuttle takes you to the MT Buller , I don’t think there is any other way to get there
Thanks

Hi everyone!
I am planning to visit Mt Buller next weekend. May I please know the price of toggoban hire? (Because some of the tour companies include the hire in their tour price and I am not sure if it is worth to pay a bit extra for that tour or to hire it separately there?)
Regards,
Minh Nguyen

Yes, price starts from $15 per day. George’s rate is $17 per day. You’re lucky forecast is snow this week. Have fun!

Hi ! I'm planning to visit Mt Buller to just experience the snow ..not skiing as I'm bringing my 6month old baby together. We plan to do a day trip, driving from Melbourne CBD to Mt Buller... any advice if I should go or not to experience the snow by Sept 20, 2019 ? Is there still got snow during that time?
Written 27 June 2019
If you are concerned there wouldn’t be enough snow at the time there is a website you can visit to see what the conditions are like at that time of year.
We have had a pretty cold winter thus far so I would think that there would be snow still there if not that would be making fake snow.
Worse case there isn’t a lot of snow I would recommend going up to the mount for a coffee and enjoy the view.

Hi. I would like to book a day tour to Mount Buller. I saw many tour providers on the internet, any recommendations for a good one?

I went on group tour with AAT Kings. We just wanted the kids to experience snow. Eventually the driver himself guided us and he’s very experienced. Pick up was about 6.15am from our hotel in Melbourne CBD. Then picked up the other guests along the way. Journey was about 3 hours to Mt Buller. The bus was big, nice and comfy. The drive to and fro was pleasant. The driver was knowledgeable and shared stories about the areas we went past. We spent about 4 hrs at Mt Buller. We were back to our hotel by about 8.30 pm.

Hi! We will be driving from Melbourne city to Mt Buller. What are our options for overnight parking? I heard that we could park in Mirimbah and take a bus up to the village. Is this still an option? If we do so, do we still need to pay the resort entry fees? Or is the resort entry fees only applicable if we drive up the mountain?
Thanks in advance!

Hi cootiebiscuits,
There are many ways to go to mt buller by car.
1. Drive your car to mansfield and book the bus to mt buller.
2. Drive your car to mirimbar and take a bus up to the village.
3. Drive straight to mount buller.
Option 1 and 2 don’t need you to pay the expensive resort entrance fee.
Option 3 need you to pay resort fee + overnight parking fee + wheel chain rental, but this option is more convenient if a few more $$ doesn’t bother you.

My husband, toddler, and I are planning a stay at Mt Buller. The hotel’s check out time is in the am while the coach back is in the pm. As it’s peak season, extending my room, even for a fee, isn’t an option, although we’re free to use the hotel’s facilities. I was just wondering if there are any suggestions or other options for us? Any hotels near the village centre where we’ll be able to rent by the hour, after checking out of our original hotel? We’re from the tropics and it’s my toddler’s first snow experience, so we’d like to be a little more prepared, just in case. Thanks in advance!
Written 14 May 2018
Most hotels will have a transit room, or you can explore the village and take all of your things with you.
