Montsalvat was started in the 1930 by Justus Jörgensen and the buildings completed by a genuine, hard-working collective of artists. It is a Heritage-listed collection of beautiful stone and half-timber buildings. But is is looking sad. In the sixties and seventies it was The Place...More

Last Saturday was cold and wintery yet Monsalvat looked magnificent .The combination of nature and beautiful old stone and brick architecture is so picturesque no matter the season. We enjoyed the excellent and diverse art exhibitions in the three very attractive and separate gallery spaces....More

This artist colony in Eltham, is well worth a visit if interested (even slightly) in Art and History. Furthermore, the popular restaurant is a treat, only negative: it is the only place I have been surcharged for using a Visa Card. Recommend you Google "Montsalvat"...More

Montsalvat is hidden away in the back streets of Eltham. It's extremely quiet and tranquil. An old artist colony that still has many different artists working out of it

A wonderful wedding comprises so many elements. As the arranger, you can only control the selection of the venue but from that virtually all flows. Our daughter chose Montsalvat after much comparing and it was an inspired choice. Yes, it looks a little "worn" but...More

Hadn't been for years and wanted to rekindle my interest - it's a wonderful old building and grounds but had breakfast first and I lost any "appetite" for staying - like the past reviewers, think there should be some concession for diners

To the best of my knowledge, the main "baronial hall" had several buffalo roasting size fireplaces which obviously were used. Apart from that, no, I did not see any other heating.
