We didn't have time for a passport tour as we were travelling through but a drive to the mine lookout doesn't take much time at all. Good views into the mine and up over the town of Burra. Worth a visit even if you don't have much time.

Just loved all the preserved Heritage Buildings around the Township of Burra and the stories of Burra's History.

A glimpse into the past with a grand stand view of the old Burra Copper Mine closed in 1970. Easily accessed and good viewing point slightly off the highway.

Recommend visitors pick up the Burra Passport before venturing out. We were restricted by time, but would indeed go back and spend more time exploring this incredibly preserved site. Lots of incredible photos taken from the public viewing areas.

This is a view of mining and investment history 170 years ago. The explanatory boards show how underground copper mining and water pumping was done. They removed 3 million gallons a day. The copper ore sorting was done by 10 year old boys for 6 shillings a week.

Despite living in Adelaide all my life learnt heaps today. Great guide at the Engine room. Preservation is fantastic with small working display. We did it as part of the passport key. This is why Burra exists today and many other towns sprung up as a direct result of the Monster Mine.

As part of the Burra Heritage tour this is a great place to visit, beautiful building with lots of information on how it all worked. Another must see in and around Burra. Entry was included in heritage tour price ($30) or you can pay single entry of $5. Only open at certain times a day.

A wonderful visit into the history and hardship of mine workers many years ago. Working underground in horrific conditions. The guide has some amusing stories. Well worth a visit. Do the key tour of town to see other places of interest, brewery cellars was interesting.
