We drove here from Dresden, parked and hiked for nearly 3 hours right across the sandstone rock formations. Was extremely satisfied with the amazing views. The bastei bridge was beautiful and the Elbe river flowing below with the small towns in the distance add a nice touch. Must see site!

We cheated and got the bus from Pirna to save time and a strenuous walk. Very glad we went as the views are stunning. Be aware that parts of the walk to the bridge have nothing to hold on to- my mother who is in her 60s managed ok, but may not be suitable for everyone.

Visited in January, it was like we stepped into The Chronicles of Narnia. Breathtakingly beautiful and not just from the chill in the air. Be prepared with proper footwear because the paths are not shoveled but you could spend hours exploring the beauty going down different trails. Dog friendly and very photogenic. Restaurant on site with surprisingly good food and... More

Do take a trip to see the amazing and elaborate sand rock formations, rising 636 feet above the Elbe River, and the bridge across some of the jagged rocks, called Bastei. You drive up to the place where the stairway begins down to the bridge. Here you will find gift shops, cafes, and even a hotel. My husband and I... More

The towering limestone outcrops at Bastei are definitely worth a visit. They are beautiful to look at, but also provide a great vantage point, 100 metres, above the Elbe river, to view the surrounding countryside. Well worth a visit. Best to get there early in the morning before the coach loads of tourists.

This is one of the key points when coming to Saxony. Some basic advice: - watch out for the crowd, we in November so it was not so bad - have good hiking shoes - go first to the castle in the rocks (just behind the Bastei Bridge) - there is a nice view - a kind of appetizer just... More

This is probably one of the most popular hikes in the area, and therefore very crowded. A lot of people come by car or bus and just do the short walk to the bridge. The true beauty of the place is better experienced by hiking up to the bridge and back down again. You can loop around to avoid backtracking.... More
