Calm spot in the heart of Indore
Jan 2020
Different color of stones give this monument a different appeal. Such style of architecture is very different from other such monuments.

Adjacent lawns allow visitors to relax and munch on fresh fruits sold outside the monument.

Great example of architecture
Feb 2020 • Solo
Had the fortune if being last of the India heritage walk conducted here. Will try to share what I learnt

The krishnapura chattris are the cenotaphs of 5 members of the holkar dynasty -krishnabai holkar, tukojirao 2 shivajirao, , and yashwant Rao holkar 2, and a smaller chattri of Manorama raje which is of the post Independence era

Blend of maratha , rajput and Mughal architecture, the chattris form a magnificent edifice. Maratha and rajput pillars hold the structure while Mughal architecture in the form of jharokas can be seen.

The chattris have intricate carvings and each chattri houses a shivling , since Lord Shiva is also known as 'shamshan adipati' abd this place is essentially a cenotaph.

Not preserved well
Jun 2019
Again an example of how the city's historic heritage and architecture is poorly kept. These chhattris are an architectural gem as you see the maratha style on domes and murals. But its not managed well and you can find random people loitering around.

Worth a stroll
Aug 2019
We were rushed so we simply saw it from outside. But what I saw from outside has whetted my appetite. I am going back to Indore one day to see these from a closer range.

an example of unique Maratha architecture
Jan 2019 • Couples
These cenotaphs were built in memory of Holkar rulers & their family on the banks of Khan river & are very near to the Rajwada & nearly 1 km from the Sarafa Bazar.
Entry & Photography is allowed without any fee.
The Veer Savarkar market is located opposite the Chhatri & the area in front of the cenotaphs is used as a car parking & there is a small temple & garden behind the cenotaphs . These cenotaphs are illuminated in the night & look awesome.
Krishna Bai Holkar also known as Kesar Bai was married to Yashwant Rao Holkar I & after the death of her husband & his 1st wife , she took care of their minor son Malhar Rao Holkar II & continued to play prominent administrative role until her death in 1849 AD. She was cremated @ this site & an ornate cenotaph was built in stone in her memory in late 19th century & is a fine example of the exquisite Maratha architecture during the reign of the Holkars .The walls of the cenotaph are elaborately decorated with beautiful sculptures of Gods & Goddesses of the Hindu pantheon wearing Maratha drapery. The arches are decorated with geometric patterns .
The Chhatri (cenotaph) of Bolia Sarkar deserves special mention. It was built in 1558 AD @ a cost of Rs 2 lakhs during that time . It is a classic example of architectural brilliance & perfection during that period . It was built in memory of Sardar Chimnaji Rao Appa Sahib Bolia who was the Bule Sardar of Bolia dynasty . It represents a beautiful blend of Maratha , Rajput & Mughal architectural styles. The octagonal Garbhagriha ( sanctum sanctorum ) is built in Rajput & Maratha styles while the lattice work is an example of Mughal architecture. The images & figurines of animals & birds carved in the Chhatri are in Maratha style. The scenes depicting the life of a common man are carved out in vivid detail.
These heritage structures are State Protected Monuments , built @ the confluence of Chandrabhaga & Khan rivers near Krishnapura bridge , however , sadly these rivers look almost like a sewage canal @ present . The cenotaphs underwent restoration work in 2015 & is a must see location for architecture & history buffs .

Excellent architecture
Dec 2018 • Family
Considered to be the cremation place of Royal Holkar family. But that is history, and no cremation in past so many decades, so feel nothing uneasy in visiting this place. Maratha architecture could be seen in the structures. Small parking facility is available (in total, not more than 7-8 cars could be parked). The place is also extremely congested with traffic.
