Wusong famous for its " Frozen Rime" .. only happen in Dec - Feb... the mist from the river frozen in the bare trees and formed crystal like leaflets that will disappear as the sun rises. Need to get up at 5am to take a short ferry ride to the island to view it. Really, really cold and mobile &... More

one of China's natural wonders. You have to see the way the snow hangs on the trees. It is amazing. I missed the carved ice show but I saw the set up. I think this will be great. Beautiful walks.

As you might aware the rime phenomena only occurs when weather condition permit. I think is a 60-40 chance. We depart from 5.30AM and it took around 1 hour with some snowfall. I paid a taxi from Jilin downtown for 280RMB (return trip) after much haggling with the driver(student advantage!) the day before. my driver is : 军哥18686584746 (good person... More

As the ice trees need to be seen in very early morning, it'd better to arrive the village on evening and spend a night in home stay ...by the way, the dinner was not bad and the heated brick bed,so called "Kang", (burning branches or coal inside the brick bed) which kept me warm and made me have a dream... Lovely island, very busy on the ferries, so we stayed on the same side as the car park. Lovely interesting trip through villages, an saw a lot of Chinese 'rural' life. The wind was extremely cold -38celsius. Good photographic opportunity. When we got back into the car, I felt like the movie, the mask. Face feels as though it is... More

Wusong Island is a place in the countryside among Manchu villages about 50 km outside Jilin City. It is becoming increasingly known for the most beautiful rime (雾凇) in the Jilin area. Mist from the Songhua river freezes on trees and shrubs on cold nights and forms spectacular displays of ice crystals. It's a very worthwhile excursion from Jilin City,... More

The ice trees need to be seen around 6/7am - so as the island is 2hrs outside city it requires a v. early start. Unfortunately we missed it :(

You can get to this little island which is less than 2 hours drive from Jilin City. You can also see Wusong (Ice rimmed trees) along the Songhe river in Jilin. However, it all depends on the weather. We we fortunate to get Wusong the first morning we were at Jilin. The Wusong on the island is much prettier. Best... More

Extremely cold due to the wind. We were nearly frozen on the island. Most of the wusong (icecicles formed on tree twigs or tree branches as a result of condensation) are found near the jetty, not on the island itself. But if you are lucky, you might be treated to such magical display. The lone tree on the island is... More
