The " Doorway to Heaven" mountain is just majestic and magnificent work of nature. Be prepare to walk all 999 steep steps, and you will be rewarded with a view that is simply breath taking. Nature black and white paintings across the horizons. Temperature of -2-3 degrees with sparingly heavy snow falls are expected at these times of the year.
Make sure you stopped by at the ancient Pheonix City , on your way to Zhang Jia Jeh, will give you first hand experience like travelling a time machine..to a place nature and mortals like us co-exists.

We had to walk quite a bit to get here, but once we reached the Temple it was amazing. Its huge, colourful and very peaceful.

So it was cold and December in China, but we got lucky during our trip it was in the 30's. Bruce, our guide said it was negative 20 the day before. So we were fortunate to see this temple on the way to Heavens gate. Quite a hike, so pack water and layers and layers of clothing. The temple is just amazing, as it is truly alone in the middle of the most serene, beautiful landscaping. The views of the ice capped trees and snow on mountains is inspiring. Despite the cold, it is much better to travel now for many reasons; less tourists. Bruce said you can hardly move through the temple and tourist sights during season. Second reason, the foliage on the Avatar rock formations is not as abundant, allowing you to really see the detail and beauty. Traffic is less as well as pricing

The temple is situated near the top of the mountain in Zhangjiajie Park and is easily accessible. It is an impressive temple with several ornate Chinese style buildings in the grounds along with the main temple. The interior of the temple is very impressive and has a comfortable atmosphere. There are also numerous intriguing statues of Buddhist types of gods or local deities found inside the buildings.

It was one of the places I enjoyed a lot visiting and seeing all the architecture and statues of their buddhas. The building was very colorful, charming and peaceful.
