This museum is quite spectacular in its simplicity and the quality and variety of its collections. I have heard that it's the largest museum of Overseas Chinese memorabilia in the entire country, but have no way to verify such information. It's in between the two well frequented malls of Joyful City and Wanda, yet draws a tiny fraction of the visitors that go to those places... much of the exhibits are items the emigrants from Wu Yi area left China with, donated by their descendants. There are life size exhibits of gold miners, railroad workers, rubber tappers, barber shops, laundries, a post office, train, airplane, and more... well worth at least an hour or two of your time.

I had no expectations when visiting this museum but I was quite pleased. It is a well done and modern museum that documents the history of the movement of local Chinese people abroad, their tribulations, and their adaptation to their new countries. Museum is bilingual Chinese and English with original artifacts, photographs, and some mannequin reenactments. Closing times seem to be completely arbitrary as we were hurried out way before the posted time. Final section of the museum must have been temporary as it felt very tacked on and irrelevant to the subject of the museum (life of Mao Zedong, though this section had no English).

This is a definite stop for overseas Chinese (especially Chinese Americans) discovering their Cantonese roots. This museum has a collection of 35,000 artifacts showcasing the role of overseas Chinese and their hometowns in modern history.

This museum showcases the struggles many local Chinese had to overcome to leave China and go overseas (especially America) to make a better life.

On visiting this museum I wasn't expecting much, however this museum is quite interesting, a few hours later I'm a little wiser on some of the historical traditions of China.

The museum has three floors, well laid out into 6 themes: Jinshan dream, overseas business, and loyalty to nation, hometown rise, and hometown new chapter, the life of overseas Chinese. They are telling the stories of Wuyi Overseas Chinese history and culture. It was sad to see their treatment from the foreigners in a foreign land. Lots of North American Rail Roads were built by them. Lots of them died in the foreign country, only a few saved up some money and went back to their motherland and family (One display show an old man meet his long yearning family for the first time after all the years that he been away.). Their faces are still vividly in my mind. We went to visit this museum on May 1st, China's National holiday. But no one was there. I guess lots of people went to the car show next door.

Really good museum about the overseas migration history of the Pearl River Delta people. It explains why they left the region and where they went.

I came to the Taisan region for my back to roots trip and this really helped explain how I have a great grandfather buried in Australia and another in New Zealand.

I would go back to this museum again.
