The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Rocky Mount,NC is a park designed recognize King. The City Council named the park after King because King delivered one of the earliest versions of his soon-to-be-famous “I Have a Dream” speech nearby on November 27, 1962. The park has a walking path, which leads you right to the monument and it has seats which viewers can sit and reflect. As i walked the path , I felt his presence.

One reviewer is right in that the information available here about Martin Luther King, Jr. is sparse. However, it is a good starting point for getting you, your friends, children and family talking about this man and his part in our history. Few know that major parts of his "I Have A Dream" speech were first given at Booker T. Washington School in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. (I didn't know that fact until I moved here.) Bring a lunch (or get one at the many downtown diners or fast food restaurant in the area), a copy of his "I Have A Dream" speech and relive and discuss an important part of American History while in the park named for the author of that influential speech.

There are nice biking trails around this park but you have to be careful in certain areas. A few little hills but all paved.

Dude, it's a statue. It's a statue of a man. You can look at it. It looks like a man. It's made out of the stuff statues are made out of.

As other reviewers have noted, there isn't too awful much about Martin Luther King Jr.'s life or work but the grounds are beautiful and reading speech excerpts while there is extremely moving. Go check out the Booker T. Washington community center at 727 Pennsylvania (right around the corner) where Dr. King gave a speech. My husband was even able to walk into that empty gym and got chills. You can google audio MLK Jr. Speech in Rocky Mount and you'll get to hear an excerpt while you reflect.

More of a waste of our tax dollars by a city with a corps of self-serving, dysfunctional leaders. Not safe, either.

To have seen this park an view for the first time the reunion went wonderful. We had the opportunity to walk an explore the park. There were statues of Martin Luther King an very important writing crave into the concert about him. The teenagers found that to be very interested to them an learn something at the same time from what they viewed by traveling

Had a great time there. Clean and well lit. Nice park with plenty of parking and clean bathrooms. Would consider using the park again.

Very interesting and enlightening , informative and good history knowledge. Heart touching and sentimental. Faith inspiring. My husband says it's - "Encouraging "- to see the plights of those before you, who had come to know, that, no matter what someone thinks of you, you are human, created in God's image." Dr. Martin Luther King jr. had a job to do and he did it well. He followed the master Christ Jesus, to learn the way of peace - no violence. Love must rule. It was a great struggle for those meek- like ones, and very painful. It cost Dr. King his life. He was a martyr. God allowed this job to be done, in order to end something that was very wrong. We thank God. The doctor made us all feel better.
