I love everything event this museum offers from wedding receptions to art and other scheduled classes for the public. We are truly blessed to have such an exquisite facility in the heart of Rocky Mount

we happened to see a review of this museum & ventured there in our rented car. It started as a tobacco factory & has been wonderfully restored & refitted into a great art space. it had some amazing art & quilts on display. our lovely guide took a great deal of pride showing us the collection & giving us some insights into the history of the space. I loved seeing a picture of her father working in the fields during the tobacco harvest!

The children's museum has activities for all ages. The main floor entrance level changes a couple of times a year. Currently it is all about astronauts and space. That part is more geared to older children...elementary age and up. There is also an area of natural science that includes a live alligator and fish area with other non-living animal exhibits. This area is fun for all ages. On the second level, the activities are for babies up to and including elementary children. It's very hands on and plenty of space to move. It includes a doctor's office; kitchen section; outdoor gardening with lots of produce to count, sort, weight, sell. There are books, an abacus, blocks of varying sizes, a display on honeybees, musical station, etc. One of the unique aspects of this museum is the planetarium with shows for all ages. The preschoolers will enjoy the Saturday morning show with Big Bird, while the elementary and up ages will enjoy a choice of several options showing every day beginning around 1pm. You can't go wrong when there is something for everyone. The season pass is a great option for those who are local to be able to go frequently without a lot of expense.

The Rocky Mount Children's Museum was nice. My sons, ages 3, 6, and 7 had a nice time and spent about 3 hours there exploring the two levels. They really had the museum to themselves with only one or two other families visiting. However, when we wanted to leave and have a bite to eat in what seemed a quaint town near the train station (the museum café had just closed), all of the businesses with the exception of one or two were completely empty. Nothing was there. We had taken an Amtrack ride to get to the town and were stuck there until our train could take us back to Southern Pines. We couldn't even find a place to eat. We had to order pizza and have it delivered to the train station. There is so much potential for the town with the nice buildings and sidewalk area, but it wasn't there for us. I was annoyed because I had asked for information from the Rocky Mount Visitor's Center and received a large envelope that made the town seem populated with residents and businesses. There was even a picture of people eating outside at cafes in the exact area where we were. This was really a well done falsehood. I think if we take another day trip via train, we'll stick with towns and cities that we know are populated and have businesses. I don't think we'll be visiting Rocky Mount again.

My husband and I always take our four small grandson's to this local museum several times a year. And reviews were always worthy of 5 star's. While our boy's vary in ages, there is always plenty of interesting exhibits to keep them all interested. Price is $6 a person that also includes the shows at the planetarium, so it's affordable day out if you have several children. Just make a note the show's don't start until 1pm. And I believe children under 2 are free. A huge factor for us is that the exhibits are exchanged out on a rotating basis. This trip was a bit disappointing. A lot had changed since our last visit. The ticket counter and the gift shop were removed from the entrance. I didn't see any staff on the first floor or second floor. And when we visited the second floor, no one was around, a little unnerving. The second floor used to be filled with all kind's of children's activities with everything from child size exercise equipment to funny mirrors. Our boy's loved going. This trip, only some blocks and a couple other things remained. Also, the café has closed. Sadly, it will be a while before we return.

I was pleasantly surprised when my older kids (boys, ages 9 & 11) enjoyed the museum as much as my 4 & 6 year girls! It truly is a place for all ages!! There were displays of space, dinosaurs, the human body, a market, Legos, a planetarium and more! This was a nice stop on our trip! If you want to enter the planetarium, be sure to be on time; they won't open the doors for latecomers.

We visited the museum recently with our 6 year old grandson. The first floor is currently offering lots of hands on activities related to the solar system and astronauts.
The second floor is geared more toward younger children with an exhibit all about bees, a play area with large LEGOs and
foam building blocks , a puppet theater,
and a child - size doctor’s office.
There was an awesome laser light show
choreographed with Beatles’ music which
lasted for about an hour. Admission is reasonably priced at $6 per person.

Such a well planned Museum for kids ( & adults) to learn about no only their surroundings (animals, snakes, etc. in the area), but also science, space and other labs periodically. The kids will love seeing the live alligator on exhibit.
