The fish hatchery shares a parking lot with a couple popular hikes and is just up the road from an extremely popular hike. It is open weekdays from 11-3 and includes a free bag of fish food. There is a small indoor museum with live animals (fish, snakes, frogs). The trout farm is pretty neat and is fun to feed the fish. This is the best part of the visit. The farm has a small nature trail attached, which is not very interesting at all. Overall, this is a quick stop that is not worth a detour, but worth a quick tack on to a neighboring hike.

Trout!!

wow- they have some big trout at this hatchery. kids enjoyed feeding the fish. Provides a different experience while in the forest

Pisgah Forest offers a world of wonder

Pisgah Forest is full of Nature's delightful surprises. There surely is something that will please even the most discerning visitor: well maintained camp grounds, streams and rivers, numerous water falls, wonderful fly fishing opportunities, a Nature Center, trails, and Sliding Rock - something for youngsters and the young at heart - a quick ride over the falls into a cool pool.

Fun for whole family

Not much to look at inside, but walk to the back where the trout for western North Carolina are hatched and raised. For a quarter you can have lots of fun feeding the fish. They follow you as you walk along beside the in-ground tanks where they live until they are released in the streams for fishermen to catch fly fishing. There is no entry fee.
